Fujifilm announces support for WaterAid from sales of Brillia HD PRO-T3

Wednesday 16. May 2012 - FUJIFILM Europe today announces the beginning of a 12-month initiative in conjunction with WaterAid, the international charity dedicated to improving the water supplies in some of the most impoverished parts of the world. As part of its continued drive to be as sustainable as possible, and support sustainability in the efforts of others, Fujifilm is launching an initiative that will mean the company gives a percentage of the sales of every square metre of PRO-T3 plates sold in Europe, Middle East & Africa to this international organisation, with the aim of raising at least €30,000.

WaterAid transforms lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in some of the world’s poorest communities. It works with local partners, who understand local issues, and provides them with the skills and support to help communities set up and manage practical and sustainable projects that meet their real needs.
Fujifilm’s Brillia HD PRO-T3 processless plate eliminates the processor, chemistry, gum and water used in the conventional plate production process, the plate being taken straight from the platesetter onto the press. Unlike traditional plate processing systems, no water is used at all. Since the original PRO-T plate was launched in 2005, Fujifilm has helped many printers in Europe introduce processless plate technology into their production environments, and eliminate water from their plate production.
WaterAid’s corporate account manager, Susie Kennedy, said: “We’re delighted about Fujifilm’s initiative. By raising funds for our work, the company is enabling WaterAid to transform lives in some of the world’s poorest communities. We’re excited to be working with them, as they’re giving even more printers the chance to ease their impact on the environment, using less water in their processes.”
Ryuta Masui, senior vice president, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH, comments, “Fujifilm has always been committed to the environment as we feel that we have a responsibility to reduce our burden on the planet as much as possible. Many of our products are developed with this in mind. PRO-T was originally developed in 2005 with the aim of helping printers to become more sustainable and significantly cut back their use of water.”
He continues, “With this in mind we felt strongly that we should invest some money from the sales of our PRO-T3 plates back into a good cause, and what more appropriate cause than WaterAid. We aim to give a percentage of the sales of PRO-T3 for every square metre of plate sold, and have set a target of raising at least €30,000, which we want to go towards helping to improve access to clean water and sanitation throughout Africa.”
