CafePress Acquires Canvas On Demand

Friday 03. September 2010 - Acquisition Reaffirms CafePress Position As Leading Source for Custom Printing By Adding Best In Breed Custom Canvas Printing Company and Visionary Staff

CafePress, the leading source for custom printing, announced today that it acquired Canvas On Demand, an online source for creating personalized custom canvases from users’ photographs, and its sister companies, Canvas On Demand Pro, an online service providing professional photographers with canvas printing solutions, and Great Big Canvas, a growing online shop of licensed photos produced on canvas.

With revenues three times that of their nearest competitor, Canvas on Demand is well known as the best place online to create custom art and canvases. In 2008, CafePress bought Imagekind, an online art community where artists sell their art on a range of canvases and frames. With the acquisition of Canvas On Demand, Cafepress will bring together a vast community of talented artists, iconic art as well as enable customers to find and create original works of art.

“Cafepress is committed to growing our art business and we are privileged to be joined by Canvas on Demand in this pursuit. Canvas On Demand’s leadership and people are the backbone of the company’s success,” said Bob Marino, CafePress Chief Operating Officer. “They share the same excitement and dedication to excellence found at CafePress. We are truly excited by the potential created by this union of best in breed businesses and the revolution in the art business we have started.”

Canvas On Demand’s co-owners and co-founders Joe Schmidt and Tom Lotrecchiano will become General Managers for all of CafePress’ art business, overseeing management of Canvas on Demand and Imagekind. Canvas On Demand operations will remain in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“CafePress’ vision and mission are a perfect match for Canvas On Demand; and Tom and I are thrilled that our teams are partnering with CafePress to build the next evolution of the online art business,” said Schmidt. “We look forward to working closely with the teams at CafePress and Imagekind to offer the best customizable-art retail experience on the Internet.”
