technotrans branches out into laser cooling through partnership agreement

Wednesday 28. July 2010 - technotrans AG (Sassenberg), a systems supplier in the field of temperature control focusing on applications in the printing industry, and Termotek AG (Baden-Baden), a specialist supplier of laser cooling systems, have today sealed a partnership agreement. In an initial step, the companies will cooperate in the areas of development, purchasing, production and sales, and pool their expertise.

The aim is to realise synergies in these fields by enabling Termotek for instance to use technotrans’ worldwide sales and service network, thus giving it quicker access to international customer groups.

Termotek AG’s products range from air-to-water heat exchangers for low-power lasers, commonly used in the medical field, and air-to-water compressor-based chillers for diode lasers in the medium performance range (up to 200 watts) through to air-to-water compressor-based chillers for high-power diode lasers. It also manufactures various versions of non-compressor-based water-to-water chillers. The chillers are delivered plug-and-play, are easy to maintain and are highly reliable. The company also designs and builds special systems for customers wishing to integrate the chiller directly into their laser system. The principal areas of application are the semiconductor industry, medical devices, laser marking systems and plastic welding. Termotek employs around 45 people, revenue of almost • 5 million was posted in 2009 and is expected to reach • 7 million in 2010.

“This partnership gives us access to a highly promising growth market that is positioned very close to technotrans’ core skills. If our expectations of the partnership are borne out, we will also consider taking our relationship with Termotek to a higher level,” remarked Henry Brickenkamp, spokesman of the Board of Management of technotrans AG. “Alongside the many other options that we are currently exploring for applying our technologies in markets outside the printing industry, this marks an initial specific step towards creating new opportunities for growth for technotrans, which we can then secure longer-term.”

“Termotek has established a very strong position in the market for laser cooling in recent years. The partnership with technotrans offers us excellent prospects of now taking the company swiftly into a new dimension, namely through international expansion,” declared Frank Domnick, Chairman of the Board of Management and principal shareholder of Termotek AG. “We perceive considerable potential in the American and Asian markets, which we will now set about tapping together.”
