NEW UV CONCEPT FOR SHEET-FED OFFSET PRINTING
Thursday 24. June 2010 - IST METZ showed a new UV concept for sheet-fed offset printing from 18th to 25th May at the IPEX in Birmingham, which is the printing industry´s leading international fair.
The new UV end-of-press drying system represents a further optimisation of the tried and tested IST plant engineering in sheet-fed offset printing in terms of both output and energy consumption. Only two individual plug-in modules with an output of 200 W/cm each are now required. Their UV output is comparable with current systems, but these consume up to 30% more energy to achieve their drying power. The URS reflectors are crucial in these savings. Different geometries can be used to either focus or expand the radiation path. In sheet-fed end-of-press drying, cold light reflectors with an exceptionally large opening angle are used, and are vapour deposited with more than 50 metal oxide layers. This provides the best possible reflection of UV light and diverts interfering IR energy. Water cooling effectively dissipates heat. The air cooling of the UV lamp ensures uniform operation and extracts any resulting ozone. The result is simplified printing, even on temperature-sensitive materials. The FLC (Fast Lamp Change) cordless UV lamp system enables lamps to be changed easily in just a few seconds. The lamp output can be continuously adjusted between 30 and 100%.
