CYBERVISION NEWSROOM EDITORIAL SYSTEM FOR CHAMPION MEDIA GROUP

Friday 11. June 2010 - The Champion Media Group have taken delivery of the Newsroom Editorial System from Cybervision limited. The group have been increasing their circulation and number of titles recently, putting intense pressure on their ad hoc Quark editorial installation.

Newsroom dovetails perfectly into the existing Cybervision system that already includes page planning and editorial picture library. The new system adds basket management for the journalists, extended picture entry and retrieval functions and automatic formatting of ‘routine’ run of paper stories.

Mike Rose, Production Manager, said “we were looking for the same sort of improvements in productivity and efficiency in editorial that we are now enjoying in production since Cybervision installed the Addept ad booking and Adflow planning and pagination products here four years ago.”

As a browser-based product, Newsroom is available to all staff members. It includes a page production overview in ‘flipping pages’ form. The greatest technical challenge overcome in this development was the inclusion of complex story formatting and display without recourse to DTP. Cybervision included their ‘composition engine’ from the earlier AD2000 product in the design, together with a RIP which presents the formatted stories exactly as they will appear on the printed page.

Sub-editors are presented with the page release status directly from Adflow and their pages have all the advertising components in place because of the shared database with ad booking and planning. Journalists identify pictures that could be used with the stories and the subs can include these with a single mouse click. Folio creation is automatic.

Quark is retained for the front page and other ‘design intensive’ pages, with Newsroom providing the story and picture feed, as well as ad placements. InDesign users can benefit from the Cybervision Indesign interface which delivers stories with all the formatted Newsroom components to this DTP product for page finishing.
