Presto now available in two classes of automation

Monday 31. May 2010 - At Ipex 2010 Muller Martini will be unveiling to the world the new Presto family: two compact, economical saddle stitchers offering different levels of automation ideal for an entry level finishing solution. The machines can be customized to specific customer requirements, making them ideal for short and mid-size runs. The compact layout of each line makes for easy integration into shops of any size.

Introducing the Presto A90
Muller Martini’s Presto line has enjoyed success around the globe for 15 years. The newest version is the Presto A90. The cost effective Presto A90 can deliver an impressive 9000 cycles per hour. Printing houses and finishing companies that specialize in short to mid-size runs will find this professional and extremely economical solution particularly interesting. The Presto A90 has a number of features that boost product quality, including the thickness control in the ridge caliper, the lateral Semko thickness measurer, and the staple control device. In addition to this, a long book control feature ensures that all signatures are neatly jogged. The Presto A90 is based on a tried and proven design that will last any finishing operation decades.

The Presto models (here Presto E90) introduce two different automation levels to Muller Martini’s globally successful Presto line.

Further Optimization of the Presto E90
Like the Presto A90, the at drupa 2008 introduced Presto E90 also runs at a rate of 9000 cycles per hour, but in addition to that it provides a higher level of automation. A setup wizard guides the user through each step of a make-ready routine, from the feeders through to the three-knife trimmer. In addition, jobs can be saved in the system and then reloaded, thereby further reducing set-up times. The yoke timing and the gathering chain timing to the new trimmer are completely automated and the feeder timing is semi-automatic. The Presto E90 also has an electronic product tracking feature to guarantee even greater production reliability, and the new Production Data Recorder (PDR) makes it possible to simply save the production data for an order or a shift and produce a clear statistical analysis.

Extra Quality Checks
Optionally, the Presto E90 can be equipped with the Asir 3 optical image and barcode recognition system. Working with optimum reliability, the system checks that the products are complete and correctly assembled. Another function designed to boost product quality is the new tWin Score technology that can be found in the folder feeder. tWin Score guarantees good fold quality by preventing fibre cracking for the large majority of cover stock. A follower wheel maintains an even distance to the drum, which ensures consistent scoring depth. These features help the Presto E90 to produce optimum-quality end products.

Both saddle stitchers have a shorter, more compact design than their previous models, making them perfect for space-saving, flexible layout solutions. The sturdy design is both ergonomic and contemporary, making the saddle stitcher extremely accessible and easy to use.
