Rollem Adds Value at Ipex 2010

Thursday 27. May 2010 - Equipment that enables printers to add value to the work they produce will be high on the agenda of many visitors to Ipex 2010 and there is no doubt that the area of post press provides the greatest opportunity to increase the value of printed material.

One of the world’s leaders in producing bespoke finishing systems is UK manufacturer Rollem, which sells around 85 per cent of its systems outside of the UK (approximately 50 per cent to the USA and 35 per cent to the rest of the world). At Ipex, Rollem is demonstrating a wide array of new equipment on its stand, including updated versions of its highly successful lines, JetStream, Advantage and Revolution.

The Revolution is being shown with a new Rollem Deep Pile Feeder with a rear separation facility. The new digitally controlled feeder is more compact and rigid than the previous version, as well as being easy to operate and available for a range of sheet sizes.

Two JetStreams are on show during Ipex, one of which is dedicated to finishing business cards to the highest quality and productivity. Having its worldwide launch at Ipex is JetStream II, which incorporates new JetSlit cutting technology. This system produces the highest quality slitting two directionally and is a ‘must see’ item for any printer producing web-to-print digital output.

“With eighty years experience in designing, building and commissioning bespoke finishing systems, Rollem today provides options to cover virtually every gamut of finishing requirements,” says managing director Stuart Murphy. “Our solutions range from feeding, numbering, perforating, trimming and scoring to sophisticated lines that may demand extremely accurate slitting, gluing, folding and wrapping.

“In addition to the new models on the stand, we will be launching SpeedSet Tooling. This allows users to perform much faster changeovers on both new and existing Rollem models, and enable even higher levels of productivity when slitting, trimming, perforating and micro-perforating. Rollem scoring tools, for example, produce the ultimate quality in scoring of stock printed digitally.”

Amongst the new equipment on Rollem’s stand is SetStream, a cost effective alternative to stapling or stitching books and raffle tickets. The simple to use system provides in-line multi numbering, perforating and edge gluing. A typical job would be to produce raffle tickets three-to-view on an A4 sheet, which could be glued in sets, numbered and perforated, ready to be guillotined – an extremely effective and quick option for a wide range of similar work.

Rollem has two Champion systems on its stand, one of which will be a new version offering fast and efficient semi slitting (kiss-cutting) of stock such as pressure sensitive labels. The depth of slit can be controlled accurately and one set of tooling can be used to handle a variety of jobs. The system can quickly be reset for labels of different sizes and can even be used to semi slit, for example, greetings cards prior to folding.

The Champion Original continues to be a highly popular model, particularly in situations where basic perforating, slitting and scoring need to be carried out, without the use of a skilled operator.

Rollem says there is no scoring machine on the market that can handle heavier stock than its recently redesigned scoring wheels. These can be fitted easily to any Rollem system, from a numbering unit to a JetStream, and have the ability to score stock up to 900 gsm, as well as plastic. The high quality wheels provide accurate, crack-free, scoring across a range of materials.
