ROLLEM ADDS VALUE AT IPEX 2010

Rollem directors Colin Pears (left) and Stuart Murphy will be unveiling a range of new post press systems at Ipex 2010.

Thursday 18. February 2010 - Equipment that enables companies to add value to the work they produce will be high on the agenda of many visitors to Ipex 2010 and there is no doubt that the area of post press provides the greatest opportunity to increase the value of printed material. One of the world’s leaders in producing bespoke finishing systems is Sheffield manufacturer Rollem, which will be demonstrating an array of new equipment on its Ipex stand.

Hall 18 E860
“With eighty years experience in designing, building and commissioning bespoke finishing systems, Rollem today provides options to cover virtually every gamut of finishing requirements,” says managing director Stuart Murphy, who acquired the company in 2006 with fellow director Colin Pears. “Our solutions range from feeding, numbering, perforating, trimming and scoring to sophisticated lines that may require extremely accurate slitting, gluing, folding and wrapping.

“In addition to the new models on the stand, we will be launching SpeedSet Tooling. This will enable users to perform much faster changeovers on both new and existing Rollem models, and enable even higher levels of slitting, trimming, perforating and micro-perforating to be achieved than ever before. SpeedSet Tooling produces the ultimate quality in scoring of stock printed digitally.”

New Rollem JetStream
Rollem will show two updated JetStream models at Ipex. JetStream is aimed at the digital market and at Ipex it will be demonstrating its ability to minimise waste by slitting business cards printed 25-to-view on an SRA3 sheet. The additional gutter space required when using a conventional guillotine would normally give a maximum of only 20 cards on a sheet of this size.

The JetStream system also slits the cards more quickly and with less handling, allowing one operator to perform all tasks from printed sheet to dispatch-ready jobs. Features include a deep pile feeder and automatic collator, while the new JetSlit blades ensure the highest cut quality possible.

The second JetStream machine on the stand will be set up to demonstrate the enormous productivity and flexibility offered by Rollem equipment, and in particular the extremely fast changeover times that can be achieved. A range of typical digital on-demand products can be seen running, including postcards, greetings cards, photo album, POS brochures and mailing products.

One job, postcards, printed eight-to-view, laminated and varnished, will be used to show how the system can slit, score and perforate as required. Jetstream will handle stock up to 700 gsm and with a top speed of 8,000 sph it is cost effective on low and high volumes. This model will be shown with a shingle conveyor.

New Rollem Revolution
Rollem is teaming up with Heidelberg and Sappi to produce 32,000 packs of playing cards during Ipex. Heidelberg will use a Speedmaster XL 105-10-P to print the cards on 285 gsm Sappi Algro Design Card, and during the show Rollem will use its latest version of Revolution to demonstrate how one operator can transform the job seamlessly from printed sheets to fully wrapped decks.

Revolution is arguably the most productive, accurate and versatile system in the world for turning printed sheets into playing cards of casino quality. Functions include slitting, collating, counting and punching, while the twin autolay facility ensures perfect registration to print, with a slit accuracy of +/- 0.05mm. The level of automation built into Revolution means that one operator can perform six different tasks. Rollem will demonstrate the equipment at Ipex on-line to a Marden Edwards overwrapping machine, which will wrap individual packs.

Rollem Advantage
The upgraded Advantage is the ideal system for finishing work printed on digital presses. For a low investment, the easy to use Advantage enables high quality scoring of digitally printed work and incorporates automated collating to enable highly efficient and cost effective post press handling of a variety of work.

New Rollem SetStream
Rollem’s SetStream is a new, cost effective alternative to stapling or stitching books and raffle tickets. The simple to use system offers in-line multi numbering, perforating and edge gluing. A typical job would be to produce raffle tickets three-to-view on an A4 sheet, which could be glued in sets, numbered and perforated, ready to be guillotined – an extremely effective and quick option for a wide range of similar work.

New Rollem Champion
Rollem will show two Champion systems on its Ipex stand, one of which will be a new version offering fast and efficient semi slitting (kiss-cutting) of stock such as pressure sensitive labels. The depth of slit can be controlled accurately and one set of tooling can be used to handle a variety of jobs. The system can quickly be reset for labels of different sizes and can even be used to semi slit, for example, greetings cards prior to folding. The Champion Original continues to be a highly popular model, particularly in situations where basic perforating, slitting and scoring need to be carried out, without the use of a skilled operator.
