Simple technology for low production costs

Friday 21. May 2010 - At Ipex 2010, simple, modular solutions for low-cost production in the commercial market were placed at centre stage by Ferag and WRH Marketing. Ferag system technology and JobFolio components can be assembled flexibly to create attractively priced production lines.

Profitability and investment security
For Ferag and WRH Marketing, the focus of attention at Ipex 2010 was on simple, attractively priced concepts for flexible, low-cost commercial production in the mid to lower performance segment.
The technology showcased at Ipex 2010 involved a compact EasySert line for the 2-in-1 inserting process and the StreamFold quarterfold system in combination with the new JobTrim three-side trimmer and JobStack 90 compensating stacker. The key features of these solutions are: versatile utilization; needs-based configuration; simple expansion options; and – thanks to fast set-up times and stable running – low costs per copy. Each of these aspects plays its part in guaranteeing high profitability and investment security in modern commercial production.

EasySert: stable production at 25,000 cph
With the automation of tasks that have so far been handled by machines with a much poorer performance or assigned to external partners, commercial web-offset printers are aiming to boost profitability and efficiency. When it comes to increasing efficiency – especially when merging inserts for retail stores and discount chains – there’s a lot of scope.
At Ipex 2010, Ferag presented the classic EasySert layout as currently operated by several prestigious commercial offset printers. Production on the EasySert line was off a feeder station for the main jacket and two universal JetFeeder hoppers for both the inside sections. It’s thanks to the new opening method that EasySert can also process thin, four-page products. For bundling, the line was connected to a JobStack 75 compensating stacker from WRH Marketing’s JobFolio product range.
As commercial printers who’ve been using the line in multi-shift operations for more than a year can confirm, production on EasySert remains stable into the upper performance range of 25,000 copies per hour, with almost zero waste. According to Ferag, EasySert is not only breaking new ground on the technology side. The manufacturer is winning the race on costs, too.

EasySert – also interesting for direct marketing
The modular inserting method has been quick to attract interest from direct marketing organizations. Expansion options from two to 40 hopper stations allow made-to-measure solutions for the preparation of a wide assortment of direct-marketing packages. In addition to the Rheinisch Bergischen Druckerei und Verlagsgesellschaft in Düsseldorf, who are using EasySert for direct marketing, the Heilbronner Stimme is set to commission an EasySert line incorporating 14 hopper stations in August 2010. These systems will be configured and controlled via the LineMaster line control – the same technology that’s used by newspaper printers for zoned inserting.
