AVT/GMI Presents Its Comprehensive Press Control and Quality Assurance Solutions at Ipex 2010

AVT/GMI presents its latest range of solutions, with new products and features for maximising print quality, cutting waste and improving the bottom line for commercial, label and packaging converters at Ipex 2010.

Built on the outstanding success of the GMI ColorQuick closed-loop colour control solution, the new ColorQuick/Clarios takes this proven platform a step forward, offering a superb operating experience while delivering the ultimate in productivity, ease of use and colour accuracy. The ColorQuick/Clarios’s in-line ISO specified 0/45 degree spectrophotometer offers precision and compliance to ISO build standards unmatched by any other on-press solution, enabling tighter ink control resulting in major ink savings.

This new version of ColorQuick offers live TVI curves and colour gamut plots at press-side allowing printers to quickly and easily see if the desired ISO 12647-2 or other standards have been achieved. Compliance to standards has always been at the heart of the ColorQuick system and customers can now verify and audit compliance by use of an independent Certified Reference standard supplied with the system. No other solution can offer printers and print buyers such peace of mind with guaranteed results.

The new ColorQuick/Clarios also features a new Rapid Response scanning mode that reduces time to complete make-ready scans, saving paper, time and producing high quality in less time. This latest version of ColorQuick is also available as an affordable upgrade to existing users, extending the life of the original ColorQuick investment.

The suite of prepress connectivity products, Spectral Reporting and Tone Value Analysis will also be available with additional new product introductions to be previewed at the stand.

The Microcolor/Mercury remote ink control updates the proven accuracy of GMI’s patented digital servomotors with a graphical, fully touch-screen workstation. Flexible new product architecture enables advanced automatic ink settings and control on virtually any model of litho or letterpress machine.

Shown at Ipex will be the new Operator Console, with more graphic control displays, which are easier to operate and learn. Enhanced plate image preview make presetting from CIP data simpler and more accurate. These new Mercury operator consoles can be customised to match key spacing on any litho or letterpress. These controls are all Ethernet-based so they can be positioned anywhere along the press line that support productive activity. Ink key data can be stored locally at the console or on pressroom networks, so that they are always ready for recall and re-use.

New at Ipex, AVT / GMI presents the next generation PrintVision/Apollo II 100% automatic inspection platform with advanced inspection capabilities for all print applications. With higher resolutions, improved levels of automation and enhanced user interface for easier operation, the PrintVision/Apollo II incorporates a new, powerful hardware and software infrastructure, supporting the highest performance levels for demanding applications. PrintVision/Apollo II Commercial offers a dedicated solution for commercial presses, including dual side inspection of specific web offset defects such as colour and register variations, water ink imbalance, ink drips and paper defects. PrintVision/Apollo II Commercial includes enhanced capabilities to reduce waste and improve press efficiency and utilisation.

New optional multiple and fast cameras deliver improved resolution and explicit image quality. The system is equipped with many new standard and optional features for both on-press and on-rewinder operations, such as fast and dual camera configuration and a master verification module that enables comparison of saved master images to current jobs.

Enhanced solutions for packaging
On the Ipex stand, visitors can see AVT’s market-leading packaging solutions for improving print quality, cutting waste and raising customer satisfaction levels, while at the same time improving profitability.

New for Ipex: The SpectraLab – an innovative in-line, spectral-based colour management solution supplies traceable, ISO-standard graphic arts colour in-line measurement for modern web presses. L*a*b*, density, dot gain, and other print control metrics are collected by scanning the print with a dual-beam spectrophotometer. The in-line automated scanning function allows the measurements to be collected, analysed, and stored, thus reducing the labour and delay required by off-line methods of measurement. With SpectraLab, packaging printers can utilise existing colour standards to bring improved consistency to the in-line evaluation of standard colours between rolls, press runs and printing sites. The SpectraLab will be available as an optional module to the AVT / GMI automatic inspection platforms, and will be upgradable to existing installations.

The established PrintVision/Jupiter has become the industry standard solution for on-press automatic inspection, offering superior process control capabilities that reduce production costs and enhance product quality. The PrintVision/Jupiter can be equipped with added-value modules such as press control, colour management and barcode verification.

Exciting new features and solutions for packaging and labels applications:
New for Ipex: iReg, an off-line semi-automatic registration make ready for CI flexo presses that utilises any graphic element printed on the web for fast registration.

ProMIS works with the PrintVision/Helios II to provide quality assurance on-press or on-rewinder. ProMIS is now able to have bi-directional communication with MIS systems in the print production environment. ProMIS receives relevant job information from production and sends quality information to MIS systems. This sharing of information reduces set-up times, increases the level of automation, and eliminates the need to re-enter information, preventing data entry errors. ProMIS can be seen mounted on a PrintVision/Apollo II on the Ipex stand.
