FREE CONSULTATION AT IPEX TO PROTECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Friday 14. May 2010 - Following a number of enquiries from exhibitors, the Ipex 2010 organisers have teamed up with Barker Brettell, a leading specialist firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys based in the UK to provide on-site advice concerning patents, trade marks, copyrights, designs and other intellectual property rights.

Whether exhibitors are concerned that someone else is infringing their rights or have received a threat from a third party, advice will be on hand from Chartered Patent Attorney, David Harris, with the initial 30 minute consultation period being free of charge.

David will be located every day during Ipex in the Hall 11 Organiser Offices from 10.00 – 12.00 and then available by phone to meet in the afternoons.

Explains Trevor Crawford, Ipex 2010 Event Director: “Some exhibitors are worried about intellectual property issues and have discussed their concerns with us. During major exhibitions it can be difficult for them to seek professional advice so we feel it’s our responsibility to offer a convenient service directly at the show to provide piece of mind for exhibitors.”

David Harris has been with Barker Brettell for over eight years, having qualified with the firm. He has a Physics degree from the University of Cambridge and has spent much of the last eight years dealing with patent matters relating to engineering, physical, electronic and software inventions. He has worked with clients ranging from private individuals through university spin-outs and SMEs to large multinationals, but is aware that understandable coherent advice is what a client needs in the sometimes incomprehensible world of intellectual property. He is no stranger to disputes, having successfully represented his clients before the UK and European patent offices and having recently negotiated the settlement of an acrimonious copyright and design dispute before the Patents County Court.

Comments David: “The key to economic resolutions of disputes is to try and settle matters amicably early on; ideally one would never need the courts. Taking professional advice early on in a dispute is essential, and the service that we are offering aims to provide that. Knowing what your rights are can be half the problem!”
