Durrer at Ipex

Monday 03. May 2010 - World first in index cutting

Durrer Spezialmaschinen AG has established itself as the world’s leading supplier of semi-automated and fully-automated index cutting machines. Durrer has set yet another benchmark with its new developments, REBIB and KLEBIB. The automated solution for manufacturing cave cut step indexes is a world first and replaces the intensive manual work previously required. Both machines will be on show to the general public for the first time at IPEX 2010 (stand 20-D670).

REBIB and KLEBIB cannot fail to impress. Thanks to the machine-assisted manufacturing process, product quality is becoming less dependent on the skills of the operating staff. This is reflected in more precise cut shapes, the high degree of repeat accuracy when cutting and the accurately glued labels. A modern control enables a user programmable cutting and sticking process. In addition, the automated procedures increase efficiency in the manufacturing process.

Fully automatic index cutting machine
The tried and tested REGA 5 remains Durrer’s flagship. With over 40 sold around the world, the fully automatic index cutting machine can handle paper grades from 30g m2, book block thicknesses up to 60 mm and sheet sizes from A6 to A4. The multiple cuts option means that up to 1,500 products can be processed per hour. Consistent developments at Durrer have resulted in further machine improvements. The new insertion makes it easier to process WIRE products and work with multiple cuts. Switching to a servo motor has reduced wear of the guides in the cutting machine and noise emissions. Another advantage is a more consistent cutting performance thanks to improved timing between counting and cutting.

REMAT
State-of-the-art control and drive technology are at the heart of the new REMAT semi-automatic index cutting machine. Customers have reported a noticeable improvement in performance compared to the old REMAT generation. The highest standards of work safety and workplace ergonomics complete the REMAT concept and have resulted in over 20 buyers in four years. The high degree of flexibility and short retooling times have also been praised. The use of two cutting units means it is possible to switch between angle and form cut within a few minutes. The REMAT supports all the known cut shapes for catalogues, telephone books, brochures, documents, exercise books and loose leaves. It can handle products up to 80 mm.

REDRU
The REDRU is a stand-alone printer unit for printing cut indexes. It complements the REGA 5 and REMAT machines. The REDRU prints European and Arabic indexes and supports all standard types of binding including loose-leaf products.
