Presstek 34DI Breathes New Life into UK Printing Company

Thursday 22. April 2010 - Hammersmith’s Oasis Printing delivers higher quality, faster service for increased customer retention

Presstek, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRST), a leading supplier of digital offset printing solutions to the printing and communications industries, today announced that Oasis Printing, located in Hammersmith, West London, has upgraded its conventional offset press to a Presstek 34DI press. As a result, the company has been able to improve its print quality and provide better customer service.

“We had two convergent issues that drove this purchase during one of the worst recessions since the 1920s,” said Michael Morris, Managing Director. “Our 12-year-old platemaker was on its last legs, and our four-color press, also a dozen years old, no longer meet today’s quality requirements, resulting in outsourcing of too much work with a corresponding decline in margins. With its on-press platemaking and small footprint, this highly automated, very high quality DI press is perfect for our needs.”

Morris explains that the small footprint is important since the press is located in a basement and a larger press simply would not fit. “As it was,” he added, “we had to dig up the back garden, put a hole in the basement wall, and have a large crane lift the press into the building. It was quite an operation, and Presstek did an outstanding job of coordinating the event.”

Oasis Printing has three full-time employees and also offers digital printing services in color, black & white and large format. The company has leveraged the Presstek 34DI’s small environmental footprint to assure customers it is delivering environmentally responsible printing, with chemistry-free platemaking, waterless printing, and vegetable-based inks. In addition, the company has implemented a number of other environmentally sustainable practices and adopted the tagline “Eco-Friendly Printing.”

With the addition of the Presstek 34DI press and the elimination of all of its conventional offset, Oasis has been able to bring all of its work back in house. While Oasis has felt the effects of the economic downturn as have most other printing operations, Morris has a positive outlook about the future. “First of all,” he says, “had I not made this investment, I don’t think I would have been able to stay in business. Secondly, the work we are able to generate with the DI press makes me very proud of our operation. Because I feel so good about it and believe in the product, I will sell more.”

Morris is not alone in feeling good about the DI press. He says, “Presstek has been unbelievable. They have given me 182%–absolutely superb support. It is very clear to me that the Presstek team also believes strongly in the quality and value of the products they sell and service.”

“It has been a pleasure working with Oasis on this project,” said Peter Swann, Presstek’s UK Sales Manager, “Michael has an exciting vision about the future of his business and the courage to make the necessary investments to achieve that vision. It is firms like this that will continue to survive and thrive, despite economic conditions.”
