MediaNews Group to move all Newspaper Media Websites to EidosMedia’s Méthode Web Portal

Tuesday 20. April 2010 - MNG has selected EidosMedia’s Méthode Portal Server as an integrated and standardized editorial platform for all 70+ of the group’s media websites.

MediaNews Group, the USA’s second largest newspaper company as measured by circulation, has chosen EidosMedia’s advanced Méthode Portal Server as their integrated platform for the group’s 70+ news sites throughout the USA. The Denver-based group operates a large network of newspapers and media websites from the Denver Post and the San Jose Mercury News to dailies and weeklies with high local penetration.

“We wanted to bring all of these sites onto a common platform, while letting each property maintain its local focus and identity,” said Oliver Knowlton, MNG’s Interactive President. “The flexibility of the Méthode Portal Server will allow us to do this, as well as let us build on the interactivity and community features that have been key to our success at the local level.”

The project will use a modular approach, with a common core providing a robust, centrally managed platform: new functionalities developed at their corporate level can be rolled out to all sites quickly and easily. At the same time, local modules will provide management of the content and ‘look & feel’, so that the individual site can maintain a strong, independent and vibrant identity. “The modular approach will allow MNGI to roll out the solution quickly and efficiently, as well as enabling the fastest to-market leveraging of components developed at the centralized, corporate level,” commented Steve Ball, Marketing Director for EidosMedia Inc. “Each individual site will use a standard architecture that can be tailored to add any local needs and functions.”

The MNG project will make use of the Méthode Portal Server’s wide range of reader interaction features from forums, comments and polls to channels for user-generated content. Also important will be personalization functions allowing readers to tailor their own views of the portals and geo-tagging of content to provide mapping of local news items.

“The move of its news sites to Méthode Portal Server will allow MNG to continue its successful strategy of delivering high-quality news at local level while benefiting from the synergies of a national network,” said Jo Ann Froelich, Country Manager for EidosMedia Inc.
