BRECON ENTERS THE NEW DECADE AND CELEBRATES ITS 30TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH THE PROJECTION OF CONTINUED POSITIVE GROWTH

Brecon offers a complete range of packaging services for the pharmaceutical sector from its purpose-built facility in Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire

Wednesday 17. February 2010 - Brecon Pharmaceuticals, the leading supplier of commercial packaging and clinical trials supplies services for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors has entered the new decade and its 30th anniversary year, with projections of continued positive growth and an ongoing commitment to invest in its people and its technology.

During the past 12 months, the company has defied the economic climate and continued to introduce the latest technologies and market-leading packaging solutions, which has attracted major contract wins, while at the same time, maintained its recruitment drive, which has seen an increase in its staff of over 10% in the same period.

Comments Steve Kemp, business development director at Brecon Pharmaceuticals, “Since Brecon’s foundation 30 years ago, we have stuck to our commitment to invest in our greatest assets – our people and our service offerings – which has paid dividends for Brecon as a business, as customer demand continues to flourish.”

The past year has been significant for Brecon, in that it has seen substantial investment in technology and services to further build on its position at the forefront of its sector. Having become part of AmerisourceBergen Corporation in 2006, Brecon continued to strengthen its transatlantic ties within the AmerisourceBergen Packaging Group, working ever more closely with sister companies Anderson Packaging (Rockford, IL) and American Health Packaging (Columbus, OH) to harmonise best practice. As a result, great progress has been made in the development of a truly global service incorporating packaging, storage & distribution and returns management for clinical trials and seamless cross-border procedures for customers.

In addition, further equipment investment that has driven market success for Brecon included innovative product packaging in vials and blisters, such as the introduction of the world’s only fully automated line for the production of Burgopak’s award-winning patented unique sliding blister pack, which ensures patient information remains with the product at all times. Other developments instrumental in Brecon’s continued success includes the development of its Track and Trace capabilities to combat drug counterfeiting and enhance patient compliance, the increase in demand for Hospital Unit Doses and ethical drugs, its flexible range of Late Stage Customisation solutions as well as its investment in new controlled drug storage facilities, and a new ERP system, set to come online later in the year.

Continues Steve, “As we enter 2010, our forecasts for the first three quarters of the year are extremely encouraging and we are delighted to be in such a position of strength to celebrate 30 years of successful trading. Throughout our 30 year history, it has been, and remains our mission to constantly evaluate customer demands and ensure we can deliver at the very highest possible standards, while maximising production efficiencies and cost savings for our clients, without diluting our pool of talented and experienced staff. Now as part of the ABC Group, we have the capabilities to now offer a truly global service to support pharmaceutical products throughout their entire lifecycle, from early clinical trials through to final delivery.”
