CTP - Computer to Plate
Suprasetter is the firm favourite on the Aintree Road
Friday 11. December 2009 - Eliminating the need to use a specialist carrier to remove and dispose of chemistry waste was a prime incentive for Qwikprint to switch from a Presstek polyester CtP system to a Heidelberg Suprasetter A52 metal device.
The company, which is based on Aintree Road in Bootle, will run this latest generation CtP device with Fuji Pro-T processless plates supplied by Heidelberg. It outputs about 150 plates a month but it has bought its kit outright rather than through a consumables deal.
“About 80% of our work involves one off orders and even where there is repeat work we can clean, gum and store plates to be reused,” says managing director Ian Waller. “Its the environmentally friendly choice, using less power than our previous system. The Suprasetter will enable us to work to high quality screening criteria speedily, feeding our two Heidelberg presses, a Speedmaster SM 52 and a GTO.”
The company is finding the Signastation imposition software combined with MetaDimension prepress workflow very efficient, providing quick and easy layouts and the certainty that the files will remain without compromise to founts or positioning in production stages.
The company, which was founded by Ian Wallers father Arthur in 1962, likes the Heidelberg name. It has found its presses run trouble-free and that the support team who installed and trained staff the device this month “were like a part of our team, a pleasure to work with”.
