MWV Redefines Food Service Packaging with Launch of MWare

MeadWestvaco Corp. (NYSE:MWV) announced today a branded line of high-quality, paper based food service packaging materials called MWare. MWV Food Service Packaging is redefining its product line and as part of the launch, all MWV food service products will now be under the MWare brand. MWV is making the change to streamline collaboration with converters and food service operators.

“We want to broaden our role in how we partner with our customers to make it easier for them to access innovative food service solutions – and the right solutions – for all of their needs,” said Dobbie Newman, director of Food Service Marketing, MWV. “Leveraging the resources at our Center for Packaging Innovation, we start with the end consumer to work our way back through the value chain. Our consumer insights provide the foundation for collaboration between our industrial designers and material scientists, and our customers.”

All MWare solutions are designed with sustainability in mind. MWV was the first paperboard manufacturer to develop and introduce a food service-grade post-consumer recycled fiber hot beverage cup that complies with USFDA and ISEGA food contact standards. MWV has also launched a family of materials lined with bio-based polymers, creating truly renewable solutions for cups, trays, bowls and containers. Many of the MWare products have met the ASTM 6868 standard for degradability and are currently being certified for compostability.

“Over 35 percent of North American food service industry packaging is made from polystyrene-foamed materials that are neither compostable, nor made with renewable resources,” said Newman. “Our team of scientists is at the cutting edge of developing solutions that employ the latest technologies to create 100 percent renewable packaging solutions for the food service industry.”

MWare provides a full line of products under the following categories:

MWare Essentials: Traditional bleached paperboard and polymer options like low-density polyethylene (LDPE) for high-quality, cost effective solutions.

MWare Balance: Offers enhanced choices for environmentally friendly food service packaging. For example, products are made with up to 30 percent post consumer recycled fiber and bio-based coatings like PLA.

MWare Advance: Delivers innovative combinations of paperboard types, fiber mix and functional coatings for optimal product integrity and maximum consumer satisfaction.
