“Over the past three years Océ has made significant inroads in the cut-sheet production printing market—particularly in the book sector. With their high throughput and excellent gray scale image print quality, the Océ VarioPrint 6000 series has enabled digital printing to expand its reach into the professional and education book markets. The new Ultra line and the 6230 high speed model will certainly help Océ further increase its penetration into book manufacturing,” said INTERQUEST President Gilles Biscos.

In printing book blocks, the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system is over 60 percent more productive than competing cutsheet perfecting systems. In a typical run of 6″x9″ books averaging 300 pages on 150 sheets, the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system can produce 2,950 book blocks in a three-shift operation, far surpassing the nearest competitor. The system offers a productivity advantage when using oversized media for print runs of two-up 6″x9″ book pages. Book publishers can reliably produce up to 9,300 12″x18″ impressions per hour at 155 ppm, 60 percent faster than the nearest competitor. Near-perfect registration, superior quality, media flexibility for a wide variety of paper stock for the book printing industry, as well as heavy and coated stocks, and multiple in-line and near-line finishing options make the Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra system a premier solution for digital book production.

New Océ Temporary Speed License Program Offers Unique Investment Protection

Investment protection has always been a core value of Océ offerings, and the Océ VarioPrint Ultra line is designed to provide a smooth growth path that can evolve at the customer’s pace. The Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra line is highly scalable for the ultimate in investment protection. Customers can install an Océ VarioPrint 6160 Ultra model and as their print volumes grow, add greater speed and additional capabilities without purchasing another system or training operators on different equipment.
Recognizing the need for greater speed is not always permanent, Océ introduces the Océ Temporary Speed License program to give customers a temporary speed license for occasional peak periods or unexpected application volumes. An industry first, Océ Temporary Speed License is a convenient, flexible program designed to accelerate productivity and profits, without risk or long-term financial commitment. It is a simple, on-demand speed license, which temporarily increases their existing Océ VarioPrint engine speed to 250 ppm.

Pixel-level Control for Rich Tones and Outstanding Quality

New Océ ScreenPoint technology provides intelligent screening and tunable print quality to support production of image-rich applications on Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra systems. Océ ScreenPoint technology eliminates guesswork and automatically renders difficult print applications as smooth, high-definition black and white, with exceptional representation of color files as a near-perfect grey scale. Océ ScreenPoint technology automatically addresses each pixel point to produce smooth gray scales without sacrificing lines per inch (lpi). Print providers and their clients alike benefit from high output quality with high resolution. With tunable print quality, both pre-press staff and key operators can significantly improve image quality of originals. With contrast control and adjustments to image lightness and darkness, the outcome is predictable, high quality tonal fidelity with no loss of detail. Both commercial and corporate printers can eliminate manual workflow bottlenecks in pre-press and production areas.

High Speed Reliability Reduces Labor and Overtime

The high speed Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra line helps print operations gain control over escalating labor and overtime costs. With up to eight hours of job queuing and scheduling, up to four hours of non-stop performance, and monthly volumes up to 10 million prints, print operations can complete more work in less time, minimizing after-hours shifts and overtime. Industry-leading reliability and ease of use let one operator run multiple machines for more efficient use of staff. Generous input capacity handles up to 13,800 sheets, while a roll-feed option boosts that to 60,000 sheets. Output capacity of 18,000 sheets through the addition of up to three optional high capacity stackers supports longer runs with minimal intervention.

Remote Viewing Maximizes Productivity

Remote system monitoring through a browser-based connection to the Océ PRISMAsync controller gives production staff a visual representation of system status from any desktop within the enterprise. The screen displays the application scheduler and outlines any required intervention. As a result, system operators are just a mouse click away from knowing job or machine status. In keeping with the Océ commitment to investment protection, Ultra’s new Océ PRISMAsync controller functionality will be available to all Océ VarioPrint 6000 customers, giving them additional connectivity, quality and workflow benefits.

Media Flexibility Drives More Business Opportunities

The Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra line supports an extensive range of media types and sizes, with the industry’s largest paper input/output capacity for oversized (12.6″ x19.2″) and custom-sized stock from all available drawers. Print providers have traditionally encountered reduced productivity when printing on many coated stocks. The new Océ VarioPrint Ultra line’s media module supports printing on virtually all stocks up to 300gsm with no impact on productivity. In addition, for converging print environments, the added capability of the 7″ X10″ statement printing format accommodates the migration of many short-run transactional print applications to the Océ VarioPrint Ultra line. This reduces or eliminates time-consuming and costly make-ready processes associated with other solutions.

Océ Format Independence Creates Workflow Versatility

The Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra line is not dependent on any proprietary file formats and offers full integration with Océ PRISMA workflow solutions for graphic arts, transaction, in-house and digital print shops. This makes it possible for print providers to stand out as a one-stop, one-system resource for more types of jobs. With seamless interoperability, customers can direct existing applications to Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra systems without workflow interruptions or programming delays.

With Océ DPLink and Océ KDKLink software, the system can easily integrate with both legacy Xerox and Kodak applications without reprogramming. Print service providers can conveniently replace older systems in mixed environments. The Océ PRISMAsync controller handles jobs from a variety of workflows and retains job ticket settings and media attributes. Designed as true convergence printers, Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra systems can easily handle native IPDS transaction applications, and with the push of a button, customers can switch to on-demand publishing jobs without re-booting.

Ongoing Focus on Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability has been a defining philosophy at Océ for over 50 years. Through use of Océ Gemini Instant Duplex printing and efficient single-pass technology, the new Océ VarioPrint Ultra line demonstrates the Océ commitment to sustainability by using paper, toner and energy more economically. No toner waste bottle is required as the systems consume virtually all available toner. The Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra Line is up to 40 percent below minimum ENERGY STAR requirements and emits virtually no ozone. In addition, the systems are both RoHs and ENERGY STAR compliant.
