New Oce PRISMAproduction TrueCost Tool Simplifies Color Job Estimation

Oce, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announced a new cost-saving, revenue-optimizing enhancement to Oce PRISMAproduction server software. New Oce PRISMAproduction TrueCost(TM) software automatically records and provides access to ink coverage information for the Oce JetStream family of very high-speed color inkjet digital presses. Print providers benefit from pixel-precise monitoring, pricing, quotations, cost accounting and chargeback based on the exact cost of producing a color job. By taking the guesswork out of calculating color costs, Oce PRISMAproduction TrueCost software enables print providers to capture more color profits and maximize ROI for color jobs, regardless of color ink coverage.

Further extending Oce leadership in document and workflow management, the Oce PRISMAproduction TrueCost tool integrates with Oce PRISMAproduction Accounting(TM) software and other Oce PRISMA workflow extensions to deliver powerful cost estimation, revenue-optimizing and productivity benefits. When Oce PRISMAproduction TrueCost software is implemented in concert with other Oce PRISMA products, print providers can accurately calculate the true cost per page of a color job based on all of the costs of operating a printing system, including paper, labor, clicks, power, finance charges and ink usage.
Generating an initial cost calculation using the Oce PRISMAproduction TrueCost tool is as simple as running a small sample of the color job. The software calculates the exact number of dots for every color in a sample, breaking out percentages of cyan, magenta, yellow, black, MICR or spot color coverage. Being able to calculate usage and costs in this way gives print providers more precise data for formulating quotes to help them run their businesses more efficiently.
In addition, the Oce PRISMAproduction TrueCost tool “remembers” ink consumption on a job-by-job basis for every document printed on the Oce JetStream system. As a result, print providers can look up historical pricing data on jobs weeks or months after they’re printed. In addition, they can determine which jobs are making or losing money and ensure that all costs are in line. Print providers benefit from the ability to quickly generate accurate, competitive quotes, which helps improve profitability, enhance customer satisfaction and keep tight control of consumables cost and usage.
“The challenge for print providers responding to customer requests for quotes has been accurately calculating the true cost of a color job, including ink usage. This varies dramatically from job to job based on several factors–the number of color images, the number of colors and the density of color,” said de Goeijen. “Until now, print providers generated approximate estimates.
