PrintIT! Goes Green
Friday 04. September 2009 - PrintIT! has gone green. The industry-backed initiative designed to showcase the many career opportunities offered by print, has unveiled its new green identity (pantone ref: 376c), which is being rolled out across the entire range of PrintIT! collaterals.
The new look centres on an update to the familiar logo, which is now a vibrant green, reflecting the environmental-based learning modules introduced into the 2009/2010 PrintIT! course, as well as the printing industrys commitment to use sustainable and eco-friendly substrates and print processes.
Paul Evans, project director of PrintIT! comments, “We are immensely proud of the strong positive identity PrintIT! has established since it was introduced in 2005. The striking logo and magenta-coloured workbooks for students and teachers have become instantly recognisable both within the printing industry and amongst schools, students and teachers. However, we felt it was important to project the industrys commitment to sustainability and the environment into PrintIT!, which we have achieved through placing a greater emphasis on environmental issues in the course and final competition. The new vivid green logo enables us to maintain PrintIT!s strong brand identity and core objective of attracting young, talented people into print, while reflecting a new direction based on the importance of sustainability in the utilisation of printed material and print production.”
This coming year, the focus of the PrintIT! competition will be to present a print-based eco-friendly campaign to promote Fairtrade products in supermarkets. By introducing the element of the retail sector, the students scope of learning can be expanded during the course to include wide and large format printing, and a wider variety of end product promotional items, which will take into account environmental and sustainable issues during the design and production process.
Finalist students and their teachers selected from the 2009/2010 competition entries will also be invited to attend the annual awards ceremony, set to take place on Saturday 22nd May at the NEC, Birmingham, during IPEX 2010.
“During the PrintIT! course, each student will learn how important environmental sustainability is to their individual projects. And with the year ending at IPEX, they will have the chance to see for themselves, how these values are intertwined within the whole industry during their guided tours of the exhibition halls,” says Paul Evans.
Terry Watts, chief executive of Proskills, the developer of PrintIT! added, “Initial feedback to the rebrand has been extremely positive and everyone agrees that the change of colour injects a new excitement and direction into the project as it enters its fifth year. The underlying message carried by the restyled brand really reflects PrintIT!s persona; young, bold and dynamic, while emphasising our commitment to championing sustainability throughout our industry.”
This year, PrintIT! has enlisted the support of the London College of Communication to print a special course wall planner, Leicester College to produce the teachers course books, and Heidelbergs demonstration facilities to supply the new students workbooks and a poster explaining papermaking. For the third year running, The Paper Company (PaperCo) supplied all the paper.
