PrintIT! Annual Awards Ceremony gives the industry a reason to celebrate and offers hope for UK print plc
Tuesday 17. February 2009 - PrintIT! has announced the date for its 2009 annual awards ceremony, which will take place on Friday 20th March at the Stationers Hall in London. All finalists and their teachers will attend the ceremony where category winners will be presented with prizes from industry sponsors.
“The event has proved to be a highlight in the UK print industry calendar, and this year we are delighted with the standard of work from the students,” says Paul Evans, Project Director of PrintIT!
This year, nearly 25,500 students from over 550 schools across England participated in the PrintIT! course. Designed to give students studying for their GCSEs in Product Design and Graphic Products a unique insight into the various aspects of the print process, it exposes them to the potential varied career options provided by the industry.
The judging of the shortlisted student workbooks concluded with a tough final round, which was adjudicated by a panel of print and design industry experts.
Commenting on the standard of entries this year, Paul Evans said, “Every year we are surprised by the exceptional level of talent shown by the students, the creativity of their entries and their understanding of print which clearly comes across in the students work, and this year was no exception. It was an extremely tough job choosing the overall category winners, and if they are destined to enter the industry in the future, the outlook is very encouraging.”
Prior to the awards ceremony, the work of all shortlisted finalists will be on display at the annual Stationers Careers Day, Stationers Hall on 4th March 2009. The event provides an excellent opportunity for PrintIT! students, as well as those from local London-based schools to meet employers and ask careers advice from a variety of print industry professionals as well as giving them the chance to preview all of the shortlisted PrintIT! entries.
Paul continued, “Many of us have been suffering from the effects of the recession and it is perhaps more vital than ever therefore to attract young blood to the industry and to safeguard its future. The PrintIT! awards are an overwhelmingly positive event where our industry can focus on the good times to come.”
