TRICORBRAUN HELPS COMPANY WITH SOLID APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY
Wednesday 10. June 2009 - Sustainable beauty product packaging got a stunning new look to match its merchandises solid approach to becoming a friend of the environment.
More than 70 percent of Lush products are sold as a solid. Solid products last longer and weigh less than bottled liquids, which take more energy to transport. For example, one truckload of Lush solid shampoo bars is enough for about 800,000 washes. It would take 15 truckloads of liquid to do the same job! If one person in five in the United States switched from liquid shampoo to solid, about 22 million plastic bottles would be saved from landfills, and 6 million tons of preserved shampoo would be prevented from entering the environment.
While the majority of Lushs product line (of more than 300 handmade cosmetics) are sold as a solid, TricorBraun provides the company with 100 percent clear PCR PET and 100 percent black PCR HDPE Boston Round bottles for products which do require packaging, such as liquid soaps, gels and lotions.
PCR resin is defined as resin that has been used in commercial consumer applications. This includes water bottles, vitamin bottles, shampoos, milk jugs, etc. These products are then returned into the community recycling programs to be manufactured into new products again.
“This goes to the heart of Lushs philosophy of ethical sourcing,” according to Jadina Irving, TricorBraun packaging consultant. “We look for the simplest packaging to do the job and use post-consumer recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials whenever possible.”
