Sappi’s portfolio expands to offer uncoated paper in Europe

Friday 05. June 2009 - Sappi Fine Paper Europe is synonymous with coated paper but the recent acquisition of four former M-real mills means, in addition to its current offerings, that Sappi can now offer two very strong European brands in uncoated paper: Tauro and Cento.

Tauro is produced at the Stockstadt mill, Germany, and is best known for its world class service levels and excellent press behaviour. Cento is made in Switzerland, at the Biberist mill and benefits from the longstanding tradition on Swiss accuracy and quality awareness.
The location of the mills enables them to play a key role in the most important markets in Europe. Biberist and Stockstadt are ISO, PEFC and FSC certified so customers can be reassured that all aspects of sustainability are respected.
In recent times the uncoated paper market has had to struggle with overcapacity and price pressure as a result of the current economic climate. However, printers, publishers and corporate clients still need a reliable quality that gives a good print result and press performance, so they can take advantage of the best promotional opportunities for their products and services. With both qualities in the extended portfolio, Sappi, together with the merchants that have these qualities in their program, can supply the market with cutsize to folio to reels.
Karin Hiddink, Business Manager for Uncoated Papers at Sappi Fine Paper Europe said: “As one of the new key players in the uncoated market, we are excited to be able to offer our customers the quality they need from our portfolio. We have a strong heritage within
the coated paper market and we are looking forward to building upon this reputation with uncoated paper offerings following the acquisition of the Tauro and Cento brands.”
