Autobond opens new door of opportunity for packaging printers

John Gilmore, managing director at Autobond, which has opened new doors of opportunity for packaging printers.

Thursday 28. May 2009 - A recent development from Derbyshire manufacturer Autobond opens the door to sheet-fed packaging printers looking for a less expensive method of producing jobs that incorporate metalised board. The launch of a cross cutter with the ability to handle substrates up to 250 micron polyester provides the opportunity for printers to apply metalised film on low cost board using a standard Autobond Mini laminator.

“Purchasing metalised board is quite expensive but metalised film is only a fraction of the cost and this can easily be applied to a relatively cheap board on an Autobond laminator,” says managing director John Gilmore. “With the launch of the CC76 cross cutter, a company could effectively produce their own metalised board, which would then be ready for printing whether this is for a carton for a tube of toothpaste or an expensive cosmetic.”

Autobond’s range of laminators can be used to apply thermal metalised film, which is purchased with a dry adhesive already on one side, or metalised film that requires that application of a water-based adhesive at the point of contact with the cartonboard. The latter would reduce the overall cost even further.

Autobond’s Mini laminators are available in sizes from B3 to B1 and with a range of options, including the incorporation of other finishing processes in-line such as embossing, UV coating or the application of a magnetic material to one side. Training can normally be carried out within a few days.
