Starpack Golden Anniversary to headline at PPMA Show 2009
Friday 22. May 2009 - Celebrating its Golden anniversary this year the Starpack Awards 2009 dinner and ceremony will be held in the Concourse Suite at the Birmingham NEC on the evening of September 30 during the PPMA Show.
“Entries have held up to almost record levels even during these recessionary times,” said Gordon Stewart, head of IOP: The Packaging Society.
“And we are delighted to have been able to join forces with the PPMA and Reed Exhibitions to organise our fiftieth birthday celebrations at the Show.”
Visitors will be able to view many of the winning packs during the show and, say the judges, are in for a “feast of innovation”. Gold Stars will be presented at the dinner, while Silver and Bronze winners will be presented at a prize ceremony during the afternoon.
New this year is the Machinery Award of Excellence which has been introduced in recognition of the essential part the machinery sector plays in ensuring product reaches the end consumer.
“This squares the circle in Starpacks representation of all packaging disciplines and is proof that associations are better working together than apart,” explained Stewart.
Speaking for WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) lead sponsor of Starpack 2009, special adviser Mark Barthel said: “The awards provide an ideal platform for the supply chain to share best practice, drive innovation and create a vision for the future of sustainable packaging. Following last years record entry to the Environmental category we are expecting even better technical advances this year.”
Judges, including representatives from some of best known retailers and brands plus many well-known packaging organisations and personalities, are already hard at work assessing the hundreds of entries across 16 categories including awards for Technical Innovation, Environment, Design and Marketing, Logistics and Machinery Excellence.
Lead sponsor for the Starpack 2009 is WRAP; Alcan Packaging – Food Europe is a Gold sponsor for the Starpack Awards which are also supported by the MPMA; the PPMA; Warners (Midlands); PIABC, Packaging Today and Packaging Professional.
The Awards Dinner will take place in Concourse Suite, Birmingham NEC, Wednesday, 30th September 2009
