Cosmofarma Exhibition 2009: an excellent prescription for the crisis

Thursday 30. April 2009 - Cosmofarma Exhibition, that will be held 8-10 May in Bologna, will represent an important and fundamental event in such a particular moment in time for the protagonists of the world of pharmacy: manufacturers, wholesalers but especially pharmacists will have the unique occasion to meet, debate and exchange views during the three-day event in regard to the problems affecting the sector as a result of the crisis, in addition to some aspects of the profession that are still to be defined. If it is true that the crisis can also be seen as an opportunity to improve, then this is the right time for all players of the pharmaceutical scenario to implement new initiatives with a view to make business thrive and achieve better results.

“Innovation”, said Annarosa Racca, Chairwoman of Federfarma, “is another strength of our channel that must be protected, together with the professionalism that aims at making the Italian world of pharmacy thrive”: this is the mood that will support the 13th edition of Cosmofarma, universal crossroads of the pharmaceutical world, prestigious showcase from the point of view of lines of business and privileged stage at a national level to tackle all current problems.

An overall surface of 33,000 square meters and more than 500 exhibitors, distributed among three halls, each representing a line of business: Pharmaceuticals/Healthcare (hall 36), Skin care and Cosmetics, Natural and Dietary Products (hall 26) and Services for the Pharmacy (hall 25). Cosmofarma is now one of the three main European exhibitions of the sector that can offer its estimated 17,000 visitors the best and latest innovations on the market. This year more than ever the event will really host all exhibitors: the leading companies of the cosmetic sector, the companies belonging to Unipro “Gruppo Cosmetici in Farmacia” and many manufacturers of natural products, phytotherapeutic remedies and diet-related products, a line of business that has significantly developed in the last few years. Many small and large companies representing the pharmaceutical world will be present in hall 36 that can be directly accessed by the entrance Michelino East, structural novelty of this 2009 edition, which boasts a parking for more than 3,000 cars at visitors’ disposal. Not to mention the services “in and for” pharmacies, fully representing the market manufacturers.

Cosmofarma will be fully dedicated to professional operators that will find in the exhibition not only what they will propose to users in their turn, but also what is necessary to modernize or develop the outlet and that can be hardly seen live on other occasions: furniture, robots for warehouses, equipment for galenical and herbal labs, neon signs, accessories and essential fixtures for such a business activity.

The crisis can be mainly overcome through technology and innovation, together with better professional qualifications for operators who will have to support and advise users: that’s why refresher courses for pharmacists and healthcare workers are now essential for the success of an outlet, as this is what those resorting to professionals ask for.

“After years of a sort of protectionism, it is now time to make decisions that can transform this business into a central one; our priority is to modernize the world of pharmacy so that the profession can have a future”: this is the statement made by Andrea Mandelli, the newly-elected Chairman of Fofi, who has immediately marked the importance of innovation for the Italian pharmaceutical world.

That’s why also conferences play a key role: more than 30 CEM courses, workshops and congresses (in association with the main industry institutions and under the auspices of the Federation of Italian Pharmacists’ Associations and Federfarma) can be attended by pharmacists for their professional updating.
