UPM’S IN-HOUSE MAGAZINE THE GRIFFIN AWARDED IN RUSSIA

Thursday 09. April 2009 - The Russian edition of UPM’s in-house magazine the griffin has been awarded in the all-Russia contest Best Corporate Media 2009. The griffin won the Customer Magazines category together with Audi magazine and Bacardi&Martini corporate magazine.

More than 80 companies participated in the Best Corporate Media 2009 competition. Contestants included publications of the biggest Russian oil, gas, telecommunications and finance companies as well as international renowned brands.

UPM’s Sales Director Rauno Niemelä enjoys his team’s efforts being appreciated by the professional community: “Our customers value the griffin as it gives them not only knowledge about UPM’s operations, but also understanding of the latest trends on the world markets.”

UPM’s customers contribute actively to the Russian edition through the Griffin project partner PrintWeek. “We aim to make the Griffin’s Russian edition more interactive. For example, last year we had a contest among the PrintWeek readers for finding catchy story ideas to the magazine. The future of paper directories, proposed by a lady from one of UPM’s biggest customers— the 1st Poligraficheski Kombinat directories—, was chosen as the best one,” says Mr. Niemelä.

The jury of the Best Corporate Media 2009 consisted of leading media experts and previous year’s winners. The contest was organised by the Association of Corporate Media of Russia in cooperation with the publishing house Media House.

UPM’s in-house magazine the Griffin is published three times per year in five languages—
English, Finnish, Spanish, German and Swedish—and has a print run of 27,000 per issue. The web edition is published in English, Spanish, Russian and French. The magazine is mailed worldwide to UPM’s customers and stakeholders. The Russian edition, launched in 2006, is published in print once a year and has a print run of 10,000.
