BYK presents a host of innovative solutions at the ECS

Monday 02. March 2009 - BYK’s exhibit at this year’s European Coatings Show (ECS) from March 31 through April 2 will be more innovative than ever.

Fifteen advanced additives for the coatings industry, a complete new product range for the adhesives industry and additives for construction chemicals are just a few of the highlights that the Wesel-based company is presenting at this year’s ECS.

New additive developments for the coatings industry
With the immediate reflow effect, the innovative NANOBYK-3650 product family opens up completely new surface protection options. The coating is not damaged and remains virtually unscathed when subjected to conditions that would usually result in scratches. The nano-silica particles of the new NANOBYK additives are uniformly distributed within the coating and work like a shock absorber system. Their interaction absorbs the impact energy and releases it slowly to avoid damaging the coating. The coating gains in elasticity while retaining the same level of hardness, thus offering optimum long-term protection. NANOBYK-3650, NANOBYK-3651 and NANOBYK-3652 are particularly well suited for use in industrial, wood and furniture coatings as well as in automotive and auto refinish coatings.

Thanks to its know-how in the field of wetting and dispersing additives, BYK is continuously developing innovative solutions in this area. With the development of DISPERBYK-2155, a 100%-solid, high-molecular-weight liquid polymer, BYK has succeeded in uniting what are ostensibly conflicting properties. Its unique spherical structure opens up whole new horizons as a wetting and dispersing additive for high solids systems. It exhibits good flow properties and guarantees outstanding deflocculation and is at the same time solvent-free and liquid.
DISPERBYK-2015 is a VOC-free wetting and dispersing additive for water-borne systems. Based on CPT (Controlled Polymerization Technology), it has been designed for the use in resin-free grindings, stabilizing equally well organic and inorganic pigments. The significant reduction of the millbase viscosity allows for higher pigment loading while retaining a smooth processing behavior.

Additives for construction chemicals
New materials and technologies are being developed in response to the continuously increasing demands for ever more modern and durable solutions in the construction industry.
Along with solutions for concrete and cement products as well as mortars, BYK also offers a full range of additives for the optimization of adhesives, sealing compounds, protective concrete coatings and construction foams.
The effective solutions that BYK provides to this industry are based on decades of experience with additives. The product portfolio includes defoamers, wetting and dispersing additives plus rheology, processing and surface additives as well as foam stabilizers for the construction industry.

BYK enters new markets
The additives supplier from Wesel is putting its knowledge in the field of interfacial chemistry to good use and will be presenting a new full range of products for the adhesives industry beginning from March 31. Along with defoamers and surface additives, BYK also offers wetting and dispersing additives as well as liquid rheology and leveling additives for a broad range of applications.
BYK is also setting new standards in processing capability. Rheology additives from BYK such as BYK-410 or BYK-420 are liquid and that makes them easy to use. Their outstanding property profile makes it possible to achieve the desired processing capability in all standard processing applications. The supplier of additives for adhesives is putting its extensive experience in the development of defoamers and air release agents for coatings and plastics to good use. BYK develops and produces special mineral oil, silicone and polymer defoamers for aqueous systems and for systems with or without solvents. Certain surface additives such as BYK-345 and BYK-3400 reduce the surface tension, thereby resulting in enhanced substrate wetting with better adhesion force.
BYK’s wetting and dispersing additives such as DISPERBYK-190 and BYK?W 920 make it possible to optimize the wetting of fillers and pigments; they prevent flocculation and extend the shelf life and color stability of the filled or pigmented adhesive.

Innovation – the formula for success
BYK will be presenting its products and solutions at Booth 205 in Hall 7A. With its presence at the world’s largest trade show for the coatings industry, the company is strengthening its position as a leader in innovation.
Innovations are the key formula for business success. That is why BYK relies on a very simple principle. With new products, efficient services, state-of-the-art technologies and optimized processes, the company offers its customers innovative solutions that give them the decisive competitive edge.
Along with innovative products and solutions, the overall communications concept at the ECS 2009 addresses the full breadth of BYK’s i2 innovation principle.
