Wednesday 25. February 2009 - 3M Dispersive Signal Technology Enhances User Interface ; Digital Signage Expo 2009

3M Touch Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the 3M Company and a leading innovator and manufacturer of touch technology, demonstrates today at the Digital Signage Exposition in Las Vegas, NV gesture recognition for 3M’s Dispersive Signal Technology (DST) platform and the 3M MicroTouch System DST2270DX product.

A preferred touch interface for interactive displays ranging from 32-inches to 46-inches, the 3M MicroTouch System DST2270DX is well known to application developers for its fast and accurate touch response and reliable operation in the presence of contaminants. Now, developers can incorporate the most commonly requested touch gestures such as image pinching, expanding, zooming and object rotation into their retail, hospitality, gaming and other public-access applications. In addition, this capability will incorporate standard gestures such as flicking, scrolling, and other pattern recognition-based gestures.

“Gesture recognition is 3M’s latest enhancement to the DST touch platform and an indication to the digital signage industry that 3M plans continuous product development to meet market needs,” said Chris Tsourides, business unit manager, 3M Touch Systems. “After discussing application requirements with leading software developers and end users, we’re confident that this set of touch gestures will provide the tools and capability to meet their current and future applications beyond the traditional button interface.”

3M Touch Systems provides innovative touch technology products to customers worldwide under the “MicroTouch” brand. Popular interactive applications include casino gaming, retail point of sale, foodservice, hospitality, self-service, industrial, healthcare and interactive digital signage
