3M Touch Systems Introduces Optimized Surface Capacitive Touch System for Small Displays

Tuesday 24. February 2009 - 3M MicroTouch SCT System for 5.7-inch to 12.1-inch Displays

3M Touch Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the 3M Company and a leading innovator and manufacturer of touch technology, announces today the availability of the 3M MicroTouch System SCT3250CX. This new surface capacitive touch system from 3M is optimized for retail and consumer applications, such as video phones, home automation, retail POP displays and small all-in-one devices, using 5.7-inch to 12.1-inch LCD displays. Competitively priced with 5-wire resistive touch solutions, this system provides superior surface durability and typically 11.5 percent higher optical transmission for device manufacturers requiring more reliable and brighter touch displays.

Based on the newly-released 3M MicroTouch Controller CX, this touch system has been specifically developed to meet the demanding requirements of small display applications. With a reduced component count and slim 0.8-inch x 1.9-inch board, this USB-HID controller is up to 54 percent smaller and requires up to 25 percent less power compared to typical 5-wire resistive solutions, making it ideal for compact touch devices with limited board space and low power requirements.

“With the release of the SCT3250CX touch system, compact device manufacturers can now use this optically-clear and durable all-glass product as a more robust and reliable, yet competitively priced alternative to 5-wire and 7-wire resistive touch solutions,” said Chris Tsourides, business unit manager, 3M Touch Systems. “This new touch system also offers an ‘unlimited touches’ warranty for a period of five years.”

The 3M MicroTouch System SCT3250CX consists of a 3M MicroTouch Sensor SCT3250 and a 3M MicroTouch Controller CX and will be available as an integrated system.

3M Touch Systems provides innovative touch technology products to customers worldwide under the “MicroTouch” brand. Popular interactive applications include casino gaming, retail point of sale, foodservice, hospitality, self-service, industrial, healthcare and interactive digital signage.
