Wyke Printers invests in FUJIFILM processor and plates to improve service offering and reduce environmental impact

Pete Hancock, Plateroom Manager, Wyke Printers

Tuesday 24. February 2009 - Hull based print service provider, Wyke Printers, recently enhanced its service offering by investing in a FUJIFILM FLH-Z 125 processor and Brillia HD LH-PJE plates, reducing its chemistry spend by 30%, while offering improved quality and consistency to customers.

Peter Hancock, plateroom manager at Wyke, said: “We are committed to delivering the highest quality print at a competitive price to our customers. As such, we decided to review our plates and processors to investigate how we could achieve better plate consistency and less downtime. We looked into the various plates and processors on the market, testing the industry’s top products over a period of a few months. It soon became apparent that the FUJIFILM FLH-Z 125 processor together with the Brillia HD LH-PJE plate was the right product for us.”

Hancock says that the switch has already provided massive cost savings to the company: “Since installing the processor in December 2008, we have already benefited from substantial chemistry cost savings of 30% and our make-ready times have reduced considerably, which has greatly improved our productivity. In the current economic climate, companies need to take a look at cost saving options without having to compromise on quality.”

He continues: “There is more and more pressure from agencies and print buyers for printers to offer more environmentally responsible options to its clients. Our customers can now order their products knowing that they are environmentally friendly, without having to compromise on the quality.”

The FLH-Z 125 is a CTP plate processor designed primarily for use with FUJIFILM Brillia HD LH-PJE positive working thermal CTP plates. It incorporates FUJIFILM’s latest intelligent ‘ZAC’ microprocessor control system which helps to achieve consistent, high quality plate production with minimal chemistry usage – therefore also getting the environmental “tick” next to its name.

Graham Leeson, marketing manager for FUJIFILM Graphic Systems, UK said: “The environmental report published by John Zarwan earlier this month (www.johnzarwan.com) clarifies the relative impact of the different plate technologies. We are very excited about the positive results that emerged in terms of chemistry reduction with the FUJIFILM FLH-Z processor and Brillia HD LH-PJE plates. The report proves that this combination of processor and plates is an excellent investment for environmentally conscious printers.”

The Brillia HD LH-PJE plate is a long-run, positive working thermal CTP plate that does not require pre-heating or post-baking, and is suitable for UV printing without baking. The plate also has enhanced handling characteristics minimising plate spoilage.
