Decoration Effects take on a new Dimension
Monday 23. February 2009 - Leading closure manufacturer Silgan White Cap has developed a range of special effects for its closures to enable customers to create enhanced shelf presence for their packaging and promote a premium image and product differentiation.
The effects include a number of finishes such as metallic and matt, and a unique three dimensional look. The metallic finish for a closure has been created through carefully calculated mixing ratios for each pantone colour of a glossy varnish, together with the use of special surfaces and pigments to achieve the desired effect.
The matt varnish is particularly effective with black closures and, in combination with the appropriate decoration, can be used to create an “old fashioned” or “vintage” look for a closure. The “unsmooth” surface finish also contributes to the overall effect. Two different matt varnishes are available to increase the number of finishes that can be achieved, offering maximum diversity for customers.
The 3D technique combines matt and glossy varnishes. The background and text for the closure are produced using the matt varnish while the graphics or illustration use the glossy. The contrast between the unsmooth matt and the ultra smooth glossy finishes creates the 3D look.

With seven plants Silgan White Cap Europe/Asia is an international producer of metal, plastic and composite closures for oxygen sensitive, vacuum packaged and aseptically packaged food products and still beverages. Its closures are used exclusively in glass or plastic container applications.
