Internet Saves Newspaper: THE PRINTED BLOG Launches on January 27th

Monday 26. January 2009 - THE PRINTED BLOG is the world's first daily newspaper comprised entirely of blogs and other user-created, online content.

The result is a revolutionary newspaper that reads and functions like an Internet news feed, yet can still be enjoyed on the train or spread across the breakfast table.
Mainstream newspaper publications conform to a rigid “one-size-fits-all” model in which one general edition seeks to serve the needs of a large, diverse readership. THE PRINTED BLOG, on the other hand, was designed to be a paragon of print flexibility and customization. Readers in different areas can participate in the editorial process by voting on content most relevant and interesting to them. As a result, issues in different areas are likely to feature vastly different content — even if they are just blocks away.
THE PRINTED BLOG’s model also affords advertisers the unprecedented opportunity to target hyperlocal buyers with advertising messages that are more meaningful and dramatically less expensive.
According to Karp, “I have been overwhelmed by the response we’ve gotten from bloggers, readers, and advertisers all over world, even at this early stage.”
Many have noted that, perhaps ironically, the same principles proven successful on the Internet may be the ones to save the ailing newspaper industry, helping transform the way newsprint supports interaction between people and information.
Karp is excited for the publication’s potential, and based on the enthusiasm he has seen so far, anticipates great success at developing what some are calling “The newspaper for the next 100 years.”
As THE PRINTED BLOG grows in circulation, it will operate as close to carbon neutral as possible. The company will utilize recycled materials, favor environmentally friendly vendors, and will even explore purchasing carbon offsets. “Respecting the environment as we launch a large-scale print publication is of utmost importance,” says Karp.
THE PRINTED BLOG will be launching in Chicago and San Francisco on Tuesday, January 27th, and will expand its reach as the company grows. Bloggers, editors, and readers can find us, read THE PRINTED BLOG, and contribute content to the paper on popular social networks (Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter) or at www.theprintedblog.com.
