KBA Process 5 out now

KBA starts the year with a fact-packed compendium on all aspects of printing and finishing with non-absorbent materials

Wednesday 14. January 2009 - All you need to know about printing on plastics

A new issue of the applications technology magazine KBA Process offers print pundits interesting reading. The fifth publication in the series to date is entitled “Printing on plastics and composites” and addresses in particular all those companies which process plastic film, synthetic paper or composites of paper and synthetic materials as a means to lend their products an eye-catching appearance or additional utility value. At the same time, it is intended as a source of inspiration and as a decision-making aid to printers considering an investment in this field.

KBA and KBA-Metronic are both longstanding pioneers in the fields of UV and waterless offset printing, and this technological edge is a valuable asset when it comes to printing on non-absorbent substrates such as plastic films and aluminium. In cooperation with carefully selected partners a whole host of innovative solutions have been developed for this booming sector, for example a special plastics accessory package, a corona tower or substrate-friendly UV interdeck dryers for Rapida presses. Metronic solutions permit direct printing on products such as plastic cards, CDs, DVDs and the like. As has become almost traditional for KBA Process, the authors contributing to this issue again include prominent experts from KBA’s specialist partners, in this case from the fields of polymer films, UV inks and coatings, in-mould labels, antistatic systems and surface treatment. The publication is thus able to consider a broad spectrum of topics, from the manufacturing and properties of different plastic substrates, via surface treatment and static elimination, through to printing, coating and drying. Two specialist articles also look into new fields of business which offer interesting opportunities for printing on plastics.
