KBA Rewards Innovative Thames & Hudson

(L-R) Awards host Giles Brandreth, Thames and Hudson designer Sam Clark and KBA (UK) Managing Director Christian Knapp

Wednesday 24. December 2008 - British Book Design and Production Awards 2008

Thames & Hudson’s design and production expertise were rewarded by KBA (UK) LTD at the British Book Design and Production Awards 2008.

Christian Knapp, KBA managing director, presented the London publisher with the Trade Illustrated Award for its production of the Street Sketchbook by Tristan Manco. The 272pp, 297mm x 220m, book has been described as a landmark in graffiti publishing.
Designer Sam Clark, who accepted the award on behalf of Thames and Hudson said: “Designing this book I tried to reach a balance, keeping a rigid book structure to a minimum reflecting the sketchbook subject, while maintaining just enough order to present the sketchbooks as interesting, valued artwork. I also wanted to make each artist’s section personal while keeping some flow to the whole book.
“The design had to include some unique images but disguise that some of these were from poorer quality originals. Production did a great job in pulling all this together. Like any good sketchbook, I want the reader to see something new and exciting every time they open the book.”

With very large format presses increasingly a common feature for UK bookprinters Mr Knapp was delighted to present the award. He said: “In such a highly competitive and vibrant sector it is inspiring to see so many companies continue to be creative with such a wide variety of subject material. And just as designers and printers are dedicated to producing eye-catching and award winning products, we are equally committed to ensuring we offer the sector the innovative and reliable presses it demands.”
