Life Cycle Solutions – Holistic and Custom-made

Tuesday 30. December 2008 - New central KHS Life Cycle Solutions Division offers "all-inclusive service concept".

Holistic solutions are what the market demands today. With its newly established central Life Cycle Solutions Division, KHS is meeting this demand of the beverage, food, and non-food industries comprehensively and competently. The focus here is on the service concept that has been well thought out right down the last detail, leaving nothing to be desired.

By Life Cycle Solutions, KHS means a complete package of services that can be put together modularly, completely according to individual requirements. KHS classifies Life Cycle Solutions in four areas – corresponding to the life cycle of a filling and packaging line: idea finding, investment, operating phase, de-investment. The clear objective of offering Life Cycle Solutions is to achieve continuously efficient and economic operation of plant equipment over the entire life cycle.

All things invariably start with an idea. This also applies to a greenfield project and the investment in new plant equipment. Whatever the idea might be, with Life Cycle Solutions, KHS supports the beverage, food, and non-food industries by providing advice and assistance on all activities from the very beginning. For example, KHS specialists review the location plans for production facilities, act as the point of contact for the design of primary and secondary packaging of the individual beverage brands, work out the ideal system design, and provide support in the field of intralogistics. When it comes to the design of primary packaging, KHS is able to call upon the extensive know-how of companies such as KHS Corpoplast, KHS Plasmax, KHS Asbofill, and KHS Moldtec, who have recently been incorporated into the Klöckner Group. The PET technology of these newly acquired companies covers bottle design and concepts, stretch blow molding technology, barrier coatings, and flexible linear aseptic filling concepts for sensitive products.

In the investment phase, along with classic installation and commissioning and acceptance tests of KHS plant equipment, KHS provides that certain service plus as part of the Life Cycle Solutions concept. Here, the range of services extends from financial advice to comprehensive training for the plant operating crews.

In the line operation phase, KHS specialists provide support with solutions in the areas of Maintenance Services, Parts & Materials, Productivity Consulting, and New Packaging.

For example, KHS categorizes the following areas under Maintenance Services: Hotline support, inspection and maintenance agreements, revalidation of aseptic systems, remote service, and condition monitoring. The term Parts & Materials includes the rapid supply of original spare parts and consumables. Under the heading of Productivity Solutions, KHS offers a wide range of conversion and optimization measures, which may become necessary during the service life of a system – supplemented by plenty of advice on the subject of intralogistics. New Packaging deals with new PET bottle formats and packaging solutions. If beverage, food, and non-food companies wish to continue to exist in the market, they must adjust rapidly to new consumer demands. KHS provides comprehensive support with individually conceived conversion concepts for existing plant equipment accompanied by advice on new bottle and packaging alternatives.

At a certain point in time, even high-quality plant equipment becomes outdated after a long service life. When the time for so-called de-investment is reached, the services provided by KHS are far from exhausted. “Return & Resale” is then the motto of the Life Cycle Solution module that comes into play here, which involves dismantling, repurchasing, and reselling used lines – on request, KHS will handle everything.

The central Life Cycle Solutions Division offers a range of services, with which KHS presents itself as a provider of systems and solutions whose know-how extends far beyond pure filling and packaging technology. At Brau Beviale 2008, KHS will be concentrating on presenting the Productivity Solutions sector. The focus at the trade show will be mainly on system optimization and intralogistics from a holistic point of view. Fully in line with the motto “Is your system fit for the future?”
