HP Indigo technology employed to maximise new photobook business opportunities

Photosi head quarters in Rimini, Italy

Tuesday 25. November 2008 - HP today announced that Photosi, a print service provider (PSP) based in Rimini, Italy, has invested in a seven-colour HP Indigo press 5500 to produce high quality photobooks and increase its digital capacity.

With increased customer demand for its services, Photosi has established a new digital division equipped with a range of HP’s printing technologies including its newly installed HP Indigo Press 5500 for the production of photobooks, calendars and photoprints and an HP Designjet Z6100 Printer used to produce larger prints and posters.

The company purchased its HP Indigo press 5500 for its flexibility, reliability and ability to produce high-resolution images and colour prints cost-effectively, enabling the company to focus on innovations in digital photography.

The HP Indigo press 5500 has the ability to produce near-silver halide quality on photo-specialty items ensuring that Photosi can fulfil its customers’ demands for offset quality. Using HP’s liquid ink technology and featuring Light Cyan and Light Magenta inks ensures that shadows and shading are accurately replicated and skin tones are smoothened and enhanced adding value to applications.

“We consider HP Indigo technology to be the only solution in the current market that addresses all our needs as a photofinisher,” said Walter Montanari, production account manager, Photosi. “As the production of high-quality photobooks forms the majority of our digital printing, the HP Indigo press 5500 represents the best solution that we could have acquired. This is down to the press’ reliability, ease of use, minimised printing down-time and its outstanding quality of photo printing.”

Capable of printing more than 1.5 million A4 colour pages per month, the HP Indigo press 5500 provides unmatched print quality and productivity. The press also offers PSPs the ability to profitably grow their businesses by meeting customer demand for special colour capabilities and bespoke, personalised printing. These innovative product offerings comprise the main focus of Photosi’s marketing campaign. By utilising the capability of HP Indigo technology, Photosi is planning to focus on quality photo printing for different, distinctive and new applications, ranging from premium quality wedding albums to fun and creative cushions, t-shirts and bags.

“The flexibility of the HP Indigo press 5500 means that Photosi can reach beyond previous limitations to develop and produce new digital photo specialty-products for the market,” said Montanari.

Photosi, established in 1973, is a market leading photofinisher with 25 percent market share in Italy specialising in producing photobooks for professional photographers, photo studios and photo shops. The company recently expanded its services to Spain, the UK and US and hopes to use its HP technology to develop new market opportunities in Canada and Asia in the near future.
