MPS Cockpit
MPS Cockpit centrally plans, tracks and controls the entire newspaper production chain from platemaking to truck loading. MPS Cockpit generates the overall resource planning for platemaking, pressroom and mailroom including the required personnel from the job data entered. By simulating the whole production process, a forecast is made to show the consequences of planning in terms of capacity conflicts, production times and costs. During production the system not only displays the current production status (tracking) but also generates a forecast for the expected production completion times.
MPS PageManager
Page planning and page layout system for the volume, structure and content of newspapers. The positioning of content is carried out in close cooperation with the editorial and advertisement systems via XML interfaces. The integration with MPS Production the ABB press management system ensures that the planned newspaper structure and color requirements are matched with the press capabilities. Thus ad booking and allocation always comply with customers requests.
MPS PlateWorkflow
MPS PlateWorkflow from ABB is a unique production management system for the entire plate production process – from page input to physical plate position in the press. MPS PlateWorkflow is the result of collaboration between ABB and ProImage Ltd. to provide newspaper printers with a uniquely comprehensive digital workflow solution. It combines the advantages of ProImages Newsway and ABBs MPS systems, and provides consistent integration of page planning, ripping, platemaking, and presetting the printing press.
MPS Production
Modern newspaper printing presses provide countless alternative impositions and types of production. MPS Production is the ideal means to take advantage of all these possibilities economically, without endangering deadlines and while maintaining high quality. The system includes production preparation based on product structure libraries and automatic press presetting. Various displays and reports support production tracking, press make-ready and production analysis. Data exchange is provided for scanners and platemaking, paper roll supply and mailroom to achieve overall, plant-wide production efficiency.
MPS InsertManager
MPS InsertManager covers all tasks needed to handle insert orders professionally: capacity, technical feasibility and pricing checks at enquiry; early, binding reservation and planning up to order booking; visualization of the planned orders, distribution and competing inserts; optimization of insertion points; distribution to customized zones over multiple editions; management of incoming goods, acceptance check and interim storage of inserts.
MPS Roll Handling
The management of the paper supply – from its delivery until its consumption in the press – is dictated by economic considerations. In this context, ABB acts as the general contractor for the supply of a logistic system to manage, transport and track rolls from the main stores via the unpacking and preparation stations, the intermediate storage to the reelstands, return of rest rolls and the disposal of waste. For quality control purpose, the individual roll is identified by barcode – from supply to consumption.
MPS Inform
ABB offers MPS lnform for the acquisition, analysis and printout of data relating to newspaper production. The system runs on a standard PC within a data network and enables the user to obtain reports and analyses for his needs. The analysis includes tailor-made information for process optimization such as statistics on production, faults, operating sequences, material consumption, operating hours. It also supports roll tracking and planning of preventive maintenance including follow-up of completed works.
MPS Insight
MPS Insight is a tracking tool providing an on-line visualization of the production process which can be viewed via internet or intranet. The scope of the tracking can be extended modularly to cover page make-up, platemaking, reel handling, the press and the mailroom, at one or more sites.
MPS Press Control, MPS Control Console
ABB is the competent supplier for comprehensive drive, control and automation equipment for the press, including consultancy at the design stage up to service after delivery. The systems offered are used with conventional or shaftless newspaper presses and include:
a) MPS Press Control, the drive and control system for the press,
b) MPS Control Console, the printer’s operating console and the fault logging system, and
c) MPS Production for product planning and production preparation.
ABB offers in collaboration with Sinapse Graphic International a unique, highly integrated, interactive training system for press operators using their simulation software in the ABB Control Console.
Softproofing
ABB offers a softproofing system for use with its MPS Control Console. Whichever page is selected on the control console is displayed on large color-calibrated screen so that the printer has an exact image to compare with the printed result.
ABB Color Adjustment Interface
ABB and X-Rite have a fully integrated solution for providing accurate ink density and balance control on printing presses. This optically measures reference marks on newspaper copy and automatically calculates any required changes to ink zone values, which are displayed to the printer on the MPS Control Console for acceptance. A continuous high printing quality is ensured.
MPS Drive 760
«MPS Drive 760» is ABBs revolutionary drives system which even allows the use of standard three-phase AC drives instead of servo drives on shaftless presses. It also includes two enhanced control methods, for which patents have been applied for. With «MPS Drive 760», not only is the web tension stabilized but the web also runs more smoothly, reducing waste as well as web breaks. «MPS Drive 760» can be used with all types of rotary presses.
