GBC Commercial announces Enviro Film for eco-friendly lamination

Monday 27. October 2008 - GBC, an ACCO Brands (NYSE: ABD) business and market leader in the manufacturing and distribution laminating equipment and consumables, will preview their new eco-friendly lamination solution, Enviro Film, at Graph Expo 2008 in Chicago, October 26 - 29.

With businesses, government, and consumers demanding more renewable and biodegradable printed materials, GBC Commercial’s Product Development team started to work on a portfolio of eco-friendly products. “We did not just want to label something as ‘green’, we wanted to develop a product that truly is better for the environment” says Film Development Manager Dr. Marc Kullberg, PhD, “and we are very proud of the result”.

That result is GBC Enviro Film, a single-sided thermal laminating film that offers a range of eco-benefits:
• The substrate of the film is derived from a renewable resource, corn, instead of petroleum products. Between the raw materials and the production process, a typical 19″ x 10000’ roll represents the fossil fuel savings equivalent to three gallons of gas.
• During the production and life cycle of that same roll, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by an amount that is equivalent to the emissions created by driving a typical US car for 69 miles.
• Both the substrate and the adhesive are biodegradable and meet the biodegradability standards of ASTM-6400.
• The adhesive used in Enviro Film has a low activation temperature, reducing the energy required to run the laminator.

Enviro Film provides clarity, durability and gloss levels similar to standard OPP films. It runs on most commercial thermal laminating systems including the new GBC 7580.

Ron Butterman, Director of Marketing & Product Development for GBC Commercial, states, “GBC Enviro Film allows our customers to offer an eco-friendly choice when finishing book covers, packaging, brochures, postcards, bags, labels, menus and more. It is really a win for all: our customers, our customers’ customers, GBC and most importantly Mother Earth.”
