EasySert: the logical continuation of a step-by-step inserting technology concept
Wednesday 22. October 2008 - At IFRA Expo 2008, Ferag will be launch-ing EasySert, a world first in inserting. EasySert draws upon the strengths of the JetFeeder hopper, the FlyStream precollecting system and the UTR conveyor - three components that combine into an inserting system that processes small circulations and high supplement volumes with equal efficiency.
Small circulations, high insert volumes
At the IFRA Expo 2008, Ferag is launching EasySert, a new member of its family of inserting solutions. When it comes to efficiency, this new and very simple inserting system achieves its full potential in the small circulation segment, and also with demanding applications like Sunday newspapers in North America, where several supplements are the order of the day, along with zoning down to the smallest of sub-editions.
EasySert is an inserting technology in the copystream thats distin-guished by a one-of-a-kind concept incorporating the UTR conveyor, the universal JetFeeder hopper and the FlyStream precollecting system. With such high insert volumes and an unprecedented format and pagi-nation spectrum, stable inserting production at net speeds of 25,000 cph is only possible thanks to the combination of these three components.
JetFeeder: a hopper for all products
The JetFeeder hopper processes the widest of product spectrums. While other processing lines have to cater for the different formats and product thicknesses using several types of hopper, Ferag operates right across the system ¬¬ with a single, universal hopper model – in newspa-per, magazine and commercial production. The JetFeeder hopper is completely unaffected by different product thicknesses and formats. Products range from small-format postcards through data carriers and simple folded leaflets to high-pagination, perfect-bound brochures. When theres a change of product, after simple resetting of the format using hand wheels, the hopper is immediately ready to go. The intelli-gent separation concept remains unchanged ¬¬ – indeed, the same suc-tion nozzles can be used for approximately 80% of products. Even rigid, bending-resistant products are securely and reliably singled by the sys-tem, right down to the individual copy.
Thanks to its high precision, the JetFeeder hopper also supports the split and back-up function. So high net output and inserting quality are assured with high pagination and difficult products as well. And as an option, the JetFeeder hopper can be hooked up to the JobFeed log feeder for semi-automatic product infeed.
FlyStream with integrated repair function
The second key EasySert component is the FlyStream precollecting system. FlyStream integrates the repair function into the gathering process in the form of Intelligent Repair Control (IRC) to guarantee con-sistent, high quality when inserting products into the newspaper. Incom-plete collections are returned to the gathering section and repaired. At the same time, the control system detects missing main products, either sending the collected inserts into a holding loop or suppressing the in-feed of individual supplements in the JetFeeder hopper so they do not reach the gathering process. FlyStream is the only precollecting system on the market to offer the integrated repair function, which has reduced the quota of missing sheets to almost zero without the need to return products into the process.
No transfers during product transport
EasySert is basically an offline inserting process that uses the Jet-Feeder universal hopper for feeding both main product and inserts.
While the FlyStream precollecting system delivers the gathered inserts as a collection to the main product, the main products themselves are taken up by the UTR conveyor directly after they are singled in the Jet-Feeder. From that moment on, the newspapers are carried by the UTR grippers through the entire inserting process, until release of the fin-ished product to the MultiStack compensating stackers. Transport of the copies by the UTR conveyor system is continuous, with no transfer points. That brings high security and stability to the inserting process at net speeds of 25 000 cph.
Expansion to 40 hopper stations
EasySert can incorporate up to 40 hoppers. This expansion in inserting capacity is modular, with the smallest unit comprising paired sets of two JetFeeder hoppers.
With such broad and flexible configuration, EasySert with its exception-ally attractive price/performance ratio satisfies the demand for a simple, efficient and future-proofed solution in the lower circulation segment. And with its multitude of potential hopper stations, EasySert is also the right inserting process for applications that primarily call for high sup-plement volumes, or where, due to heavy zoning and frequent changes of supplement, economical inserting production can only be guaranteed by an appropriately high number of hoppers.
