PPM PostPressManagement System: the new-look operating concept

The new-design PPM operating interface showcased at IFRA Expo 2008 is a winner thanks to its logical and clear structure, as well as its concentration of relevant information to just a few screen displays (pic-ture: using drag and drop, supplements are easy to assign from the list on the left to the inserting system’s hopper stations).

Monday 20. October 2008 - After presenting the LineMaster line control a year ago with a fresh design for the graphic interface, at IFRA Expo 2008 Ferag is giving visitors a glimpse of the new-look PostPressManagement system planning and control platform.

IFRA Expo 2007 in Vienna saw the launch of the LineMaster II with its new user interface. Now, the new-look operating concept and screen design has been applied to the PPM PostPressMan-agement system. This is a purely graphics-based operating inter-face in an appealing design that gives a clear overview of the separate production lines, which are operated centrally in the PPM. Various screen displays can be selected by the operator from the menu for planning, control and monitoring of production and production progress (inserting system, bundling, loading docks), and also for statistical evaluation of production (produc-tion history, inserting quality, etc.). Simple drag-and-drop instruc-tions assign supplements to the JetFeeder hoppers on the MSD inserting line and allocate routes to the MultiStack compensating stacker.
The graphic interfaces mean that it’s easy to keep track of the entire installation. At any time, the operator can see how produc-tion is measuring up to set targets on each separate line, and any changes made on the PPM are immediately visible on the corre-sponding LineMaster II.
With the new PPM interface, Ferag has reduced all relevant infor-mation for planning and control of newspaper production down to a few screen displays. The sound visual layout makes the production system and all processes simple and easy to grasp. And thanks to clearly visualized processes and up-to-date information on the lat-est production status, the new design makes a considerable con-tribution to increased security, productivity and quality in the post-press processing of newspapers ¬¬- even when production involves frequent insert changes and complex distribution structures.
