New version of Captaris Alchemy Introduces Alchemy File Connector

The new version of the digital archival system introduces Alchemy File Connector, a feature that maps a Microsoft(R) Windows drive to an Alchemy repository, enabling users to directly interact with their documents from within any Windows-based application.

Alchemy File Connector users can store, retrieve and manage documents and images within Alchemy as easily as saving the files to the desktop or shared network drive. But, unlike traditional storage methods, Alchemy ensures files are immediately available to all appropriate users in a secure, auditable environment with full text searching. “Our customers will be glad to see this version of Alchemy supports a more direct path for leveraging the searchable archive to enhance productivity,” said Malcolm Wilkes, Strategic Director for Avanquest UK Limited, a Captaris partner.

Alchemy serves as a centralized digital document filing system users manage directly from everyday applications. By providing access to Alchemy through a drive letter in Windows, Alchemy File Connector users manage documents through familiar interfaces such as Microsoft(R) Windows Explorer, My Computer, Microsoft(R) Office and Microsoft(R) Office SharePoint(R) Server 2007, along with almost any other business solution. From within these applications, Alchemy File Connector users can:

— Add documents to Alchemy
— Search for and retrieve documents
— Check-in and check-out documents from Alchemy (library services)
— View versions and history
— View and modify document metadata
