Countdown to drupa 2012 begins: Committee holds constitutive session

New drupa President: Martin Weickenmeier, CEO Körber PaperLink GmbH

Wednesday 24. September 2008 - New drupa President: Martin Weickenmeier, CEO Körber PaperLink GmbH

After drupa, it’s time for drupa: fully in keeping with this motto, the drupa 2012 Committee met for its constitutive session in Düsseldorf on 23 September. The Committee unanimously voted Dipl.-Ing. Martin Weickenmeier, Member of the Executive Board, Körber AG, and CEO, Körber PaperLink GmbH, the new President of drupa. Dipl.-Ing. Albrecht Bolza-Schünemann, President of drupa in 2000, 2004 and 2008, did not wish to stand for re-election. Martin Weickenmeier symbolizes the continuity and consistent further development of drupa as the leading global fair for its sector. Since drupa 2004, the 54-year-old has already been Vice-President and Chairman of the Admissions Committee. “I am delighted to assume the presidency at such an exciting time. Our sector is developing at a rapid pace and drupa 2012 will once again be a key milestone”, Martin Weickenmeier said.

The Committee also unanimously voted Dr. Jürgen Vutz, CEO Windmöller & Hölscher KG, Vice-President and thus Chairman of the Admissions Committee. Rolf Schwarz, President of the German Printing and Media Industries Federation (BVDM – Bundesverband Druck und Medien), was confirmed in his capacity as Second Vice-President. The 23-member drupa Committee is responsible for the key policy decisions on the print media fair drupa. It is made up of representatives from the exhibiting industry and represents the entire technology spectrum at drupa – from pre-media through to printing up to further processing, packaging production and paper processing. The users’ side is also represented on the Committee through the most diverse media service-providers – as are the five most important sector associations, which are as follows:

Printing and Paper Technology Association (Fachverband Druck- und Papiertechnik) within the VDMA (German Engineering Federation), Frankfurt
German Printing and Media Industries Federation (Bundesverband Druck und Medien), Wiesbaden
Paper-Processing Trade Associations (Wirtschaftsverbände Papierverarbeitung), Darmstadt
German Pulp and Paper Association (Verband Deutscher Papierfabriken), Bonn
German Printing Ink Industry Association (Verband der Druckfarbenindustrie) within the Association of the Mineral Pigments Industry (Verband der Mineralfarbenindustrie), Frankfurt

In addition to these personnel changes, the Committee also set the key dates for drupa 2012. The public countdown to the preparation for the 15th drupa will begin this November in connection with the All in Print in Shanghai. Potential exhibitors, who would like to participate at drupa from 3 to 16 May 2012, should also make a note of a key date now: in spring 2010 the exhibitor invitations will be mailed, the closing date for registrations is 31 October 2010.
