Canon launches flagship digital/analogue home photolab All-In-One printer

Wednesday 03. September 2008 - Canon has announced it is to replace its range-topping PIXMA MP970 with a new high-end All-In-One, set to bridge the gap between the company’s standard A4 devices and its PIXMA Pro printers.

The stylish PIXMA MP980 incorporates a host of new technologies that will provide users with a mini digital and analogue photolab, as well as printing normal documents on plain paper for unparalleled high-speed home productivity.

Perfect partner for photography
The new printer will appeal to the discerning photographer, both digital and film, thanks to its innovative advancements in dealing with monochrome and colour photo printing. Central to the PIXMA MP980’s premium performance in this area is its new 6 Single Ink print engine with dedicated grey ink tank, and support for Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint Pro software.

The inclusion of grey ink into Canon’s all-new Single Ink tank system reduces grain, ensuring that monochrome prints have stabilised grey balance.

Photo-enthusiasts will also be attracted by Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint Pro software as a Photoshop plug-in to integrate it into a photographer’s existing workflow. The inclusion of PictBridge and memory card slots also increases versatility when it comes to direct photo printing, aided by the large 8.8cm TFT colour screen and Easy-Scroll Wheel to navigate through images.

Combining the PIXMA MP980 print engine, new inks and Canon’s new genuine photo papers gives ChromaLife100+ prints. You won’t have to wait that long for your photos with photo lab quality 10x15cm prints are delivered in approximately 20 seconds.

High-quality, high-speed scanning
The PIXMA MP980 is equipped to take on even the toughest scanning challenges, with a high-resolution 4800dpi white LED CCD scanner. When scanning documents and printed photographs, the white LED allows for almost instant warm-up, so you can be up and running promptly, while the CCD sensor generates excellent colour reproduction with high contrast and superior depth of field for scanning objects which are not perfectly flat.

Photographers that use film or have an archive of old slides and negatives are well catered for with a Film Adaptor Unit to scan up to six 35mm negatives or four mounted slides. As an added bonus, Auto Photo Fix can also be initiated in Film Print mode, meaning optimised images can be printed from film without the need to connect to a computer.

The addition of “WiFi” and Ethernet connectivity alongside advanced media handling features like auto duplex print/copy and DVD/CD printing make the PIXMA MP980 one of the most versatile printers on the market, exemplifying the true potential of All-In-One devices.

“The PIMXA MP980 is a truly powerful and creative home All-In-One and offers users the kind of versatility and functionality that they need to in order to produce high-quality work in all types of media,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe.
