MIPC Releases Version 3 of Printing Use Case Guidelines
Tuesday 05. August 2008 - The Mobile Imaging and Printing Consortium (MIPC), announced the release of Version 3 of the printing use case guidelines today. The MIPC is an industry association developing solutions and implementation guidelines for printing from mobile phones.
Expanding from the previous two guideline releases, the new version includes use cases such as document printing and pull printing. These guidelines extend PictBridge support to include XHTML-Print that can support enhanced layout and text notations. The new Version 3 guidelines are available for download with registration.
“The MIPC continues to promote and support photo printing by handset and printer vendors,” said Ramon Garrido, MIPC Chairman and Program Director at HP. “The organization also acknowledges the need for document printing among mobile users and has expanded its customer use cases accordingly.”
Launched in February 2004, the Mobile Imaging and Printing Consortium (MIPC) is a dynamic non-profit industry association that fosters collaboration across the hardware, software and wireless technologies involved in mobile imaging and printing. MIPC is producing standards-based solutions and printing guidelines that will provide consumers with simple, seamless, and intuitive methods for printing pictures from mobile phones.
Epson, HP, Kodak, Nokia, Samsung and Lexmark are among several major companies that comprise MIPC. “These representative companies have come together on behalf of the consumer to streamline the mobile imaging and printing process. It is the MIPC mission to enable customers to easily print from their mobile phones.”
Mobile and printing device manufacturers can test their products’ interoperability at MIPC hosted “Plugfests.” Any company is welcome to participate in the next Plugfest scheduled for December in Paris, France.
