Day Software Unveils Latest Version of Content Repository Extreme CRX

Tuesday 15. July 2008 - Day CRX version 1.4 provides access to enterprise content via full support of Java(TM) Technology Standard JSR 170

Day Software (SWX:DAYN, OTCQX:DYIHY), a leading provider of global content management software and content infrastructure software, today announced the general availability of Day Content Repository Extreme (CRX) v1.4. The latest version of Day’s innovative product enables the storage, management and exchange of content across large-scale enterprises, such as Time, Inc., providing them with a standardized (JSR 170)-compliant, robust Java Content Repository (JCR).

Day CRX v1.4 was designed for large-scale enterprise production environments. The product is a packaged, commercial version of Apache Jackrabbit, enriched with unique features for high availability, superior performance, reliability, scalability, security and desktop integration. Easy to install and configure, Day CRX 1.4 manages both structured and unstructured content, enabling content-centric business applications to take advantage of the repository’s content services, and flexible and extensible content storage.

Key Enhancements:
Higher Performance and Scalability with Tar Persistence Manager (TarPM)
TarPM is based on a new and unique persistence technology optimized for use with JCR-based repositories.
High Performance: Customer testing shows that the TarPM is substantially faster than any other RDBMS-based or file-based persistence manager.
Vertical Scalability: TarPM supports a technology called Data Store minimizing storage requirements, boosting copy operations, and allowing for high concurrent usage of the repository.
Horizontal Scalability: TarPM support clustered environments. Servers are synchronized automatically failsafe and provide horizontal scalability.
High Availability and Hot Backup & Recovery
High Availability: Ability to add and/or restore cluster nodes at run-time.
Hot Backups and Recovery: Day CRX using TarPM can be backed up at any time, including at run-time.

RESTful Rapid Application Development Framework
Day CRX now comes with CRX Launchpad, a RESTful web development framework for Rapid Application Development based on Apache Sling.
Developers can jump-start web application development using preferred programming language.
Not bound to Java and independent from current JCR API knowledge.

Apache Jackrabbit “Code Drop-In” Compatible
A Day CRX release is based on the latest unmodified official Jackrabbit release. Furthermore, starting with CRX v1.4 release, Day CRX and Apache Jackrabbit are “code drop-in” compatible with the following benefits:

Upgrading from Apache Jackrabbit Repository to Day CRX is now possible without a content migration or configuration changes.
The migration of an application from Apache Jackrabbit to Day CRX requires no or minimal effort.
Bug fixes implemented in Apache Jackrabbit can be installed within any Day CRX installation and vice-versa.
Based on the latest, unmodified official Apache Jackrabbit release, Day CRX now provides support for Source Code Debugging of Apache Jackrabbit components.

Key Benefits:
Provides Key Software Infrastructure
Makes high value content easily accessible for all applications
Protects investment in content and applications
Provides freedom of choice, avoiding vendor lock-in

Frees Data locked in Departmental Silos
Easily manage and share content across large-scale enterprises
Provides standardized access to unstructured content
Avoids “rip and replace” of existing content, apps, systems, etc.

Based on Accepted Industry Standards
Open: J2EE Java Standard – complete platform independence
Fully JCR compliant: Provides sophisticated functionality, such as versioning, locking, transactions, access control and events
Widely accepted: Standard specification led by Day and supported by the largest, most relevant software vendors

Day’s technologies allow companies to access their most valuable assets – information about their specific businesses, processes, products, customers and documents, which were previously ‘locked’ in proprietary repositories. Working with industry leaders such as EMC, IBM, SUN and Oracle, Day initiated and drove industry adoption of JSR 170. Under the leadership of Nuescheler, JSR 283 (version 2.0 of the Content Repository for Java Technology API) has successfully cleared Public Review. The next version of the standard will help to further improve the interoperability of content applications and content repositories.
Day is sponsoring its first annual Global JCR Cup competition. The contest is designed to encourage the development of content-centric applications based on JSR 170.
