A double for Cascades at the 2008 Environmental Phénix Awards!

Saturday 07. June 2008 - Cascades (CAS-TSX) was a two-time winner at the Environmental Phénix Awards ceremony that was held on May 29 in the Red Room at the National Assembly. The company won in the "Company Accomplishments - company that offers environmental technologies" category, for its Cascades Enviro 100% recycled tissue paper, as well as in the "Research and Development" category, for its BIOXO oxo-degradable polystyrene foam containers.

In order to meet the requirements of consumers that are the most fervent protectors of the environment, Cascades launched in 2007 a new line of 100% recycled tissue paper called Cascades Enviro, which has characteristics comparable to those of big name brands that are found in the market place. This new line, entirely recycled and manufactured by means of an eco-friendly process, has distinguished itself in the tissue paper market.

In 2007, in order to respond to the challenges that emerged in the area of management of residual materials, Cascades brought to market the BIOXO containers. These containers are made of oxo-degradable polystyrene foam and they degrade into a fine powder within three years, in normal landfill conditions, contrary to traditional polystyrene foam containers which take hundreds of years to degrade.

Cascades has now been awarded four Environmental Phénix awards, having won first place in 2002 in the “Waste valorization” category for the recovery program of its Kingsey Falls tissue plant and in 2003 in the “Know-how in sustainable development” category, for the environmental management system of its paper complex in Kingsey Falls. These types of awards confirm Cascades’ position as a leader in the area of environmental protection and encourages the company to remain a beacon in this area for years to come.
