Colourworld crew visits Drupa to view Speedmaster XL 75 in action

Sunday 01. June 2008 - Colourworld of Winchester in the UK is at Drupa in uniform. The company’s founding brothers Chris and Andy Tyler-Smith and their colleagues had T-shirts specially made to sport at the show and are proud to reveal that they will be an early adopter of Heidelberg’s new top of the range B2 press, the Speedmaster XL 75.

The company has selected a five-colour with coater configuration which enables them to handle branded products using specials and to meet the just in time deadline expected by its quality-conscious agency customers by sealing work.

The productivity of the press enables Colourworld to also handle the more standard magazine, brochure and general promotional material which requires competitive pricing.

Chris Tyler-Smith, managing director, says: “This is our first Drupa and its jaw-dropping to see and hear so many machines in one place. It’s a real buzz! We are delighted to see the XL 75 in action here.

“This make of press will generate profit for us because it will reduce our spend on overtime, give us 50% greater productivity over the 12 year old SM 74 it replaces and print on a larger sheet size. It produces great mark-free print and for us the gap between the cost of a secondhand and new press was more than justified by the improvements in this latest generation technology. Heidelberg would always be the minder’s choice and we sell ourselves on that brand.”

The 15 year old company started out as a high street copyshop with a pot plant and a leased copier. The pot plant has been replaced by tropical fish and the copier by a battery of litho and digital machines housed in a 12,000 sq ft unit.

Colourworld has been enjoying 30% annual growth. Its current turnover is £2.3m and next year, with the press bedded in, it could reach £3m with work from throughout the UK and abroad, even as far as Australia. It has no sales team but good marketing and many word of mouth recommendations.

The Speedmaster XL 75-5+L will be delivered after Drupa, in the second week of June. Ahead of the press the company has added a second Stahlfolder Ti52 which will safeguard against bottlenecks in finishing as the productivity ramps up.
