Goss International is demonstrating innovative technologies and an expanded application range for web offset production from its stand in hall 17, with its drupa 2008 theme – ‘New Ways for Print’.

Showcasing its latest press, finishing and workflow solutions, Goss International is presenting technologies that push the boundaries of web offset production and enhance the value of print. As well as exhibiting Magnum 4, Uniliner, FPS and Sunday 4000 printing units – all with new features and capabilities – the company is highlighting the world’s first 96-page Sunday 5000 web press. Magnapak and Pacesetter finishing systems will also be exhibited.

“Goss International is focused on continually improving the value proposition of print and providing printers and publishers with competitive advantages and new opportunities,” points out Bob Brown, CEO, Goss International. “Our organization has premiered many groundbreaking technologies at drupa over the years, and this year is no different.”

The all new Goss M-600 Folia press, which is running live on the Goss International stand, combines sheetfed and web concepts to double the productivity of sheetfed perfector presses. Demonstrations will emphasize high print quality, fast makereadies and low waste at short run lengths.

All-new press unveiled…
The Goss M-600 Folia press provides a highly productive alternative to sheetfed perfectors, with the potential to double output.

Using proven M-600 printing units, standard sheetfed inks and unique sheeter technology developed exclusively with VITS, the press will print up to 30,000 perfected sheets per hour on coated stock without a dryer. The footprint is comparable to that of a sheetfed perfector, and the investment cost and labor requirements are competitive.

Wider webs…
The world’s first 2860 mm-wide web press, the Sunday 5000, is destined for Italy later this year. All of the elements – from 1524 mm (60″) diameter paper rolls, to consumables, to folding precision at full web speeds have been designed for optimal high-pagination production and new opportunities.

As with Sunday 4000 presses, gapless blanket technology minimizes cylinder vibrations to ensure premium print quality. Fast makereadies, low-waste and short-run agility are facilitated by advanced automation.

Shorter run lengths…
An option for Goss Sunday presses, Automatic Transfer (AT) technology enables non-stop printing. This allows single- or multiple-color job changes without stopping or slowing down the press.

Goss workflow automation complements the AT process, delivering dramatic reductions in waste and makeready time and making viable an entirely new realm of short-run or versioned products.

Innovations in newspaper production…
The compact FPS press features slide-apart units, triple-wide option and cut-off change capabilities. The first installation at International News & Media, Newry, Northern Ireland, now prints two million coldset, heatset and combined products weekly.

The Magnum press represents the latest in single-width printing. Capabilities for high quality coldset and heatset printing have recently been enhanced with a new three-form inker and level-shaftless drives.

For double- or triple-wide applications, the latest Uniliner press has been restyled and has new features. These include a semi-automatic plate change option, new compact configurations using “T90” layouts, improved heatset/coldset operation with Goss DigiRail inking, and the addition of Sinapse interactive training simulators.

Print finishing…
Goss finishing systems deliver high net productivity and advanced product personalization. An expanded partnership with Ferag strengthens worldwide sales and support. The latest Pacesetter A4 saddlestitcher will be in operation at the Ferag booth. A Goss Magnapak newspaper packaging system will be featured at the Goss International stand.

Automated workflow solutions…
Goss International continues to lead the transformation to automated print production. Goss mechanical and software innovations, including the Goss Web Center for newspaper and commercial applications, are cutting waste, time and run lengths. Processes can now be completed without human intervention and digital data can flow automatically to preset, monitor, adjust and link systems.

Lifetime support…
The Goss Lifetime Support program reflects the company-wide philosophy of optimizing performance and competitive lifespan of every system. An area dedicated exclusively to service, parts, training and enhancement options will demonstrate the connectivity of these services to the innovation and expertise behind new products.
