Artes Graficas del Litoral has chosen a new Goss Uniliner double-width press for a new satellite plant in Santa Fe, 500 kilometers north of Buenos Aires. Artes Graficas del Litoral is a joint-venture that Buenos Aires based Clarin, the largest newspaper publisher in Argentina, is undertaking with El Litoral of Santa Fe.

The order, signed in February 2008, comprises 12 Uniliner units, a jaw folder and three pasters. Artes Graficas del Litoral also selected state-of-the-art Goss technology allowing automatic web-width changes with movable formers. The changeable web-width will allow the press to print numerous publications, including the 60-inch national daily Clarin, the 50-inch regional El Litoral, plus contract print jobs including newspapers and semi-commercial jobs with various widths.

During the press selection process, Artes Graficas del Litoral´s engineers evaluated many alternatives and visited press installations throughout Europe and the USA. Eng. Eladio Gil and Eng. Luis Carrara of Artes Graficas del Litoral explained the importance of the multiple web-width capability, “The automatic multi-web solution offered by Goss International is both unique and smart. We feel very comfortable with this engineering solution. We were very impressed when we visited the Uniliner press operation in Porto, Portugal, where we saw the automatic web-width change and reelstands configured at 90 degrees to the towers. The high print quality and productivity demonstrated at this facility is what we want to achieve at our Santa Fe printing plant.”

The next phase of the project will add a Goss Ecocool dryer to give the press heatset printing capability.

Dr. Hector Aranda, CEO of Diario Clarin, commented on the decision to choose the Uniliner press, “Selecting the right press equipment wasn’t easy. We believe that we have chosen the best solution for flexibility, productivity and quality. Most importantly, our selected press line can accommodate future expansion and growth opportunities.”

Diario Clarin currently has six Goss Metrocolor presses, a Sunday 3000 press, two M 1000 presses and two M-850 presses. The new Goss Uniliner press is scheduled for shipment in late 2008.
